Warranty returns are a nightmare, I used to build PCs over 10 years ago when you could be competitive and just a handful of warranty returns screwed me! You don't get paid for trying to repair something that isn't your fault, it's hell.

Can't mention the competitor name, but I can buy a pre-built PC with 2.0Ghz CPU, 1Gb RAM, 160Gb hard disk, DVDRW, LAN/audio etc - for £150, with 12 months RTB warranty.
You couldnt build a box that cheap, so why try to compete?

the market for sales is highly saturated and unless you can get import access, ie you get from the people who ocuk buy from, it is pointless.
the pc repair business is mostly saturated, depending on your area, your price and how you feel about doing it.
i thought about putting an ad in the gumtree to repair computer problems, i looked there was at least 5-10 places doing exactly that, most of them full time businesses. some reparing pcs at £25 an hour. some even offer no fix no fee etc.
you could try to beat the market with a ridiculously cheap £30 flat fix rate or something, but is it worth it ?
plus when they need parts, ie there hard drive breaks they want you to get the parts for them etc. then there is the liability aspect, you break it who pays for it ?
then there is the delivery aspect, you going to allow people to come to your house and drop off pcs ?
the way i see there are three markets for computers.
1) the people that go to pc world and buy their pcs.
2) the people that shop online for pcs like dell and packaged with warranty etc.
3) people like us who buy components and build it themselves.

Yup you can do it, you won't make much money from it and it's a lot of hassle as you have to source all of the components and then invoice your customer them etc. I've done it about 3 times before and found it to be too much effort for such a low profit.

repairing some computers for some extra money is barely ocuk competition....
Did this years ago when it was possible to make a little money out of it, but in all honesty the sort of people that would buy a pre-built system will be calling you all hours of the night with stupid issues well after 12 months as well.
Don't do it, you will end up hating computers and customers, You really would make more money delivering pizza's (tips as well)
