Hi guys going to be building the computer up soon just have a quick question Proberly more later on
Now don't want to start a war but what's the best method to putting thermo
Paste On ?
Pea
Spread with bag on finger
Line
Or the card spread ?

What thermal paste are you using?

As AS5 recommends a line on most Intel's cpu's.

Pea usually and let the clamping force do the spreading.

But if the heatsink has heatpipes visable in the base then I think a line across them is good.

1line and 1pea and not sure it's my mates paste

Ok thanks but with the pea it doesn't cover the whole surface does that matter ?

If you do a pea in the centre and screw the heatsink ontop, it will spread it over the CPU for you as Stulid mentioned

I have tried both Pea and Line (that would sound wrong out of context) and i have to say pea works better, for temp (marginally) but its easier to clean when/if you remove the heatsink. Line is just messy and a bit less even.

It doesn't really matter. Putting loads on is bad, but beyond that, do whatever you wish.

A Pea in the middle is all your need, the pressure spreads the paste out.

best bet is to visit the thermal paste manufactures website and see what they recommend for their individual paste.

depends how i feel but i've found that a line i usually do too long and it spreads down the side of the chip ;/ so now pea

Pea! Never had any probs.
You see when heatsink is pulled off, all spread evenly.

The CPU itself is small and in the middle
Pea will spreed it perfectly
The corner of the CPU has little to no impact if it has or not thermal paste

I've reseerched a bit and usually the bottom line was minimal difference between the methods. Except mess... Pea always seems the least messy.
