Building my computer what do i need?

There's nothing quite like the taste of copper and the bewildered feeling one gets when he's licking a rectangular battery.

Never used any anti static, never had a problem.

I just avoid touching components with other components and do builds on a wood table.

Why take the risk?
An anti-static strap costs a couple of pound and could save you a couple of hundred by not frying your RAM etc.

I'v killed a stick of RAM before, i always pick them up by the edges without touching any connectors etc so i dont know how i managed it.

It's only happened once in the hundreds of times that i'v rummaged around inside various computers, but it's worth getting a strap to be sure it doesnt happen.

Are you sure it was not DOA?
Happens all the time.

No, i wanted to get more RAM for that computer. So i turned it off, took the old stick out to read the label and check what i needed to buy, put it back in, turned it on....dead RAM.

I suppose it's possible that something else happened. Maybe got some dust or something inside the case when i had it open and shorted some connections on the mobo or something, but i think it's most likely that i zapped the RAM when i touched it.

As a side note, i always used to touch a metal part of the case to ground myself before touching any components, but i'v since realised that none of the metalic looking parts of any of my cases are conductive, so that wouldnt have been doing any good.

And this is why the intelligent dont venture into GD :p

But what sort of pricing are you looking at for your new build? :)

so it be safe i should pretty much have my foil hat on while wearing my metal pants lick every connector before connecting and double lick the ram (to make sure first lick got it right) should i wear a fleasey cotton jumper and locks too?

School project by anychance :p

nope just want to have a play and i have the balls to risk building a £800 build!

OP, you will never get such comments in general hardware section

i like the babble lol
