So i thought it was time to follow my brother in computers Ive got about a grand to spend, probably a little bit more.
Worked very hard to get this money and would like some advice on a graphic card to go with my system.
Ive been given my brothers old monitor a 24 inc:D as his upgraded to a hdtv.
Dave said if i waited till Jan i can have his old 4870x2. But just been bought the new need for speed shift for the pc.

I would wait if its just the graphics card your in need of help with as i would expect some big price drops since the 5850/5870's are now out.

Do you need help with the remaining components?

Is this a good combo of parts for a gaming rig. Thats all i would be doing on it. but mabe my bro can show me some overclocking when he gets back from overseas. Army and all..
Thought about having a go on bros pc, but it looks really complicated. with all them pipes and all. he running two cards from what i can see but on one lead coming out the back. Whats that all about. am also going to buy a pc mag(Any good ones out there?). so i can start learning about this kinda stuff.

That's a good spec in my opinion!

What sort of budget do you have? If you can afford it I think getting a 6GB RAM kit would be a much better option than that 3GB one.

A 4870X2 is an awesome awesome card... but January is a long way away... Logic says you should wait, but "I wanna build a system now" Syndrome will probably stop you from waiting. I'd recommend a second hand Radeon 4850 1GB (£70 max), or if you've got a few dimes spare, go for the Radeon 5850 (£200) or Radeon 5870 (300).

With the card its not costing me anything. as the 5850 will cost me 70. As hard as it is i might buy all my other components. first then have his ati. how long would that card be ok running games before i have to start lowering graphic spec in games down?

there are simply not enough high tasking games out apart from a few (crysis, gta iv etc), unless you are running on a massive resolution, im assuming it would be 1680x1050 any modern card will be good i,e 4870,4890,5850, gtx 280 etc

the 4870x2 is faster than the 5870, but give the drivers for the 5870 to mature and it will beat the 4870x2, you could save £300 and wait 2-3 months for the 4870 x2, and it will run all the latest games on max :)
