Hi,

As fate would have it(or my credit card) the time has come for me to finally build my first PC, thanks to all who helped in advising me on the right peripherals and components, the spec for this build can be found here without the SSD though .

I will be providing screenshots and would love any tips, opinions or assistance you can provide, this probably be start and stop, as am working from home today and got little rug rats running around, also pics will be taking on my phone so not sure how clear there be. No idea how this will go so don't expect any structured order to this and those with a weak heart I advise to leave now.

I be following the system build guide from the OC forum here and after all is complete if I haven’t blown myself up, I hope to overclock as well probably using this guide here. The system will be using Windows 7 Professional 64bit edition.

The computer desk and chair are expected to arrive on Monday so I upload images once they're arrive.

Wish me luck ;)

The stuff

Some PSU shots, quality packaging from Corsair I have to say

After dealing with everyday PSU from computers like Dell this looks like a beast compared to them.

MMMmmmmm rookie mistake I bet.........

Well after figuring out the correct way for the PSU, it Clipped into place with ease, that seemed simple enough

Well on to the next step, lunch sorted for the rugrats so hopefully things will speed up. I think I install the motherboard now.

Well decieded to go for the drives instead of installing the motherboard, after struggling to fit the DVD drive into the top shelf, I went for the middle, maybe I missed something in the Lian Li instructions........

HDD slotted in nicely after I found out the locked lever, with the ancient cases I've dealt with in the pass this seems like a dream case.

ALthough the motherboard was easy to install

I am having difficulties with the I/O panel alignment, it does have some spongy sivery material stuck to the back of it is that meant to be removed? or anyone have any ideas?

Well am back and as advised CPU and Venom fan is now on ;)

Now I go back and tackle the alignment issue

No I didn't get the day off work, but I was allowed to work from hime. However I had the rugrats to look after 6, 5 and 2 years so its been a very interesting day. I won't finish it today as I totally be stop working on it soon.

Bright back and early to retun to building and I just realised that the gaming keyboard wasn't delivered, I have to give OC a call.

Lovely cable management as you can see

Bright back and early to retun to building and I just realised that the gaming, I have to reconect the graphics card again.

try to get all the cables behind the motherboard tray then connect them to the motherboard should help out with the cable management. If you have any cable ties should make it easier. Can you put the hard drives in the other way so the cables Don't stick out?

I see what you mean good idea, well I powered it on no beeps or funny noises nice breeze from the fans. Can't connect the graphics card to the monitor I need a converter :o

So things will have to go on hold for now :mad:won't be able to go shop till later so probably be back to work on it in the evening.

Thanks all monitoring and posting suggestions :)

What do you need? is it a DVI->VGA that you need? didn't your gfx card come with one? I think all the cards that I've ever bought with a DVI output has had a DVI->VGA adaptor.

Yes that what I mean DVI > VGA I was surprised that it wasn't in the box myself, unless one of my kids did stealth manoeuvres on me

you would be surprised how ninja like kids are... happens with my nephews all the time. I am glad i'm only 19 and kids won't be happening for another 10 years :D

oh and the build is looking sweet, the venom cooler looks beast!
Noticed you are from London, where abouts?

No luck on the converter, I don't think it was included. I am going to give OC a call and find out what happened to the keyboard (After checking my order confrimation the keyboard wasn't even added so another mistake on my part).

I live in Greenwich, where abouts are you? come and do the cable management hahah

correct me if im wrong doesn't the monitor come with a dvi cable so you can hook it straight into the graphics card ?

Actually you are kind of right, although the Benq only comes with a VGA cable, obviously you can plug a DVI cable into it, so I don't need a converter, I just need a DVI cable, thanks for that spot man ;)

Well doesn't look like I get to go shop today, I have tided up most of the cables and i have to say looks more tidy, I am now receiving the DRAM_LED lights continuously, tried swapping the memory sticks round and reinstalling the cpu but no change, any ideas anyone?

4 pin speaker makes no warning beeps when I remove the RAM, so not sure what it could be.

Why is the PSU fan side down in that case? Is it designed like that? Is there something to compensate for it?

Yes it’s designed like that, there is a filter to compensate this, in the beginning I put the PSU the wrong way round.

do you have the 8 pin cpu connector pluged into your mobo ? around where the cpu is.

that could be a cause .

I went through toms hardware troubleshooting guide, spoken to OC support and we have come to the conclusion that it could be the motherboard, so I have my RMA confirmation and will post the motherboard today.

No updates today? :(

My weekend was real busy so didn't really get time to work on it, the latest however is that the PC didn't post, I bread-boarded the PC, just connecting PSU, CPU and motherboard, using the 4pin speaker produces no beeps, so I am sending back the motherboard. Not all gloom and doom for you though, here is some images that I didn't get time to upload before to tide you over, I should have taken a image with all the lights and fans on, I guess I upload that when it finally is up and running whenever that be.

A motherboard like you never seen that before

Let’s put the motherboard in

Looking good so far :) it makes me want to rebuild mine, damnit.

Anyway, it's probably just my OCD, but I'd get myself one of these:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CM-001-NX

And then fix the 8 pin power connect either up the side of your case (red line :D) or round the back.

I did it with mine, only because I hate messy cables :(

I was wondering what to do with that cable, I definitely be ordering one of those, thanks for the tip.

Still waiting to see what OC say about the motherboard, hopefully it is faulty and will be replaced.

Well this is what OC have told me about the motherboard

"Warranty Void : CPU Socket Pins Bent"

Dam my week gets worse...................

Could the CPU be damaged too :(

Thats not cool .. did you push the cpu in the socket ?

you dont want to do that .. just drop it in . also just have a look at the cpu if the pins all look straight them im sure your fine..

expensive mistake tho :(

I don't know how it happened, I thought I was careful but I guess not, I take there word for it as it is my first full build, although it is a painful pill to swallow.

I probably order another board today once I get the other one back.

Well I have ordered another motherboard and a 8 pin extension  , delivery is for Monday, hopefully I dont have to shell out on a new CPU as well.

I have found a company who claim they can straighten the pins for the other motherboard, so if there can fix it, then I sell that one.
