Its going reasonably well but have somehow managed to make the basic error of very briefly touching the metal contacts of one of the sticks of RAM. I know that there is a risk of the oils from the fingers corroding the metal but how much of a risk is this? I obviously don't intend to do it again but should I continue and use the RAM as installed? I figure the risk is very minmal and then over a long period of time, although I did wonder if I can attempt to clean the metal conductors in some way?? Some reasurrance would be good :)

thanks for the reasurrance - I'm freaking out slightly at my own stupidity. I seemed to touch it involuntarily as though drawn to the gold connectors as if... well they were gold! As soon as I did it I knew I should'nt have - weird!!

One other thing perhaps someone can help me with..... there only seem to be 3 motherboard standoffs with the case when it looks as though the motherboard should attach with 4 contacts. Is this normal and if so which corner is best not to attach??
Cheers

yup i agree go slow , take your time .. try not to force anything

after years of seeing repair tech's brutaly hammer ram chips in and do things with new pc's that realy shouldnt be done .. im quite happy to say ..its a lot safter to build a pc these days.

also , make sure the room is well lit , when u start dancing around the case like your fighting rocky just to get an angle where the light shines on that pcie slot its a recipie for problems.

and finaly.. when in doubt come on here , if the ppl on here dont know the answer to a pc problem... worry.. a lot

cheers guys
surprisingly for me I've been taking it nice and slow
just taking a break now as can't seem to get the motherboard in and worried I'm going to damage something!
I need to re-evaluate what I'm doing -anyone with any tips?

How do u mean cant get the mother board in, sometimes it can be fiddly.

Id put the mobo in before anything else, power supplies and hard drives etc can get in the way. Dont forget the little risers to keep the mobo from contacting on the case.

are you sure the standoffs are in the right positions?

The I/O plate can be tricky to get in. Make sure you have it pushed in all the way. Sometimes the mobo can need a bit of a push to make it line up with the risers and screw holes.

are we talking MM or CM out ?

as when i put my motherboard into my case i have to poke through my spidf port through the backplate before i sit the motherboard down, defo very fiddly ..

yeh its sometime esier to put the board in at a 45 degree angle, i/o plate first, line it up then lower the other side of the board down, rather than putting the board in flat.
