Building my first work system

Hi, new here.

I am going to be building my first system. This system will be for work only, no gaming, hopefully. The work I will be doing is the general essays and such, but also using photoshop cs2 and other programs within the CS2. I will also try to learn the 3D apps, like 3DS Max.

From what i gather I only need to focus on my ram and processor speed. And a little on graphics if I want to do modeling.

I do have a question however, they say you need faster clock speeds for ram if you want to overclock, would this mean OC'ing the ram, or generaloverclocking (new to OC'ing).

I believe everything is focused on overclocking. I did have to reduce the ram to 1gb sadly, but I will be upgrading soon.

Another reason for this system is its great potential to upgrade, and also it meets the Vista requirements.

Oh btw, I wont be OCing my video card (unless someone suggest to).

Actually could you point me to some DDR2 RAM that is about the same price? 2GB prefer, but 1gb is fine (upgrade later).

Thanks, and suggestions are very much welcome!

Overclocking is never a waste of time, as it's free and makes everything noticeably faster.

To me your system looks great but I would never spend that much on a case :p. What are you planning to add to it that requires that much space anyway?

The future ;)

I am hoping to use the case for 10+ if I look after it properly!

So would this system run flawlessly in photoshop without overclock? When I work in photoshop it could be over hundred layers, and quite large resolution too. I will also be working in 3D Studio Max.

My little bro is getting a pc from PC World for around £850, it has 2gb or ram, and e6400 c2d. I will check that out and if I am satisfied by that performance I may just get one of those. Down the road I may be annoyed about the lack of upgrade options, but if it works and it will work for vista, I will be satisfied.

What case would you recommend?

for 3D you`d best get an nvidia card as ati's have a history of poor functionality though this may have changed recently so it would be good to research it. Also for 3D work its all down to the graphics card and cpu, gfx for complex shapes and cpu for rendering. Other wise your spec is fine.

I would LOVE to have it under £1000, but its just not so easy. I think I have £1300 at most. Even though the first system is not built for gaming, at least it has a monitor that is of good quality and should last longer than the actual system.

I actually went with the first system as a foundation, and used the second set-up as a filler. Here are my results.

No need for key-board or mouse, I have those. No need for speakers, I use my headphones. No need for sound card as I have never used the features that come with one.

Remember, even though I have a high budget, I would sooner save than to spend.
