The CPU, mobo, OS+HDD, PSU, case, DVD drive and RAM are solid.

Personally I wouldn't go with a OCUK/ASUS GTX 480 as the stock cooler is among the loudest you can currently buy (the ASUS one you mention uses the same cooler as the OCUK one). Hence I would either spend the extra and go for one of the GTX 480s with the gigabyte windforce cooler (as suggested earlier) or go for another card - this ASUS DirectCUII HD 6950 2GB is a nice card and very quiet.

As for the PSU, the 550W XFX is a solid PSU, though if you are going to run a powerful card like the GTX 480 then I would personally go with a PSU with a bit more headroom like the 650W version of the same PSU - here is a review.

Corsair PSUs are generally nice and their RMA procedure is good, but the CX builder series is not up to the same standard of their TX/HX/AX ranges that are more well known, and as such the builder range shouldn't be seen in the same light in terms of quality.

I've been told to notify you all that the resolution I'm running at will 1680x1050 on a 22" iiyama monitor. Should I stick with the 560ti as it is newer, quieter and cheaper without the all of the cooling that the 480 requires?
 
480 or 6950 > 560.

OCZ PSU's are ok, a somewhat biased opinion I guess, but an informed one nonetheless. Not to mention the stealthextreme 2 range is relatively new as well so newer/better technology etc bla bla bla. Good bang for buck.

Go with Stulids build fo sho.

Either go with a GTX480 or the 6950 2GB that can be flashed too a 6970

The GTX560ti looks too weak when you can get a faster card, you dont know whats around the corner.

Aye, that resolution isn't going to be the most stressful for a GPU, but if you want to play modern games at that res and turn the settings up high for a few years to come then I would still suggest buying the fastest GPU you can afford.

At the moment you can get the cheapest GTX 560 Ti for £174, but the ASUS HD 6950 2GB Direct CU is £26 more. In my opinion it is worth it to go for the 6950 since it is a faster card, comes with an excellent cooler (so just as quiet) and has a very high chance of unlocking to a full HD 6970. This will mean you can play modern games a 1680x1050 at higher settings and will keep up with modern games for longer than a less powerful card like the GTX 560. Also, if you decide to go for a bigger, higher resolution monitor in the future then the faster card will keep up better.

The same can be said for the GTX 480 - so long as you go for one of the gigabyte cards with the custom cooler.

I agree with what's been said. I would avoid the lower end of the Corsair series, there are better alternatives in the similar price range. There is nothing wrong with XFX at all. They make good PSU's. The reviews speak for themselves. OcUK will deal with any issues within the first 12 months is it anyway? Don't be put off buying one.

You were also advised to avoid OCZ. I've had a fair few of them personally and I find them great. Never had an issue and always delivered there rated output. Can't speak for their customer service, never dealt with them.

It would seem everyone agrees on the rest of the products... you can tick that box. With regards to the PSU. There was some good ones suggested by CMNDR_ANDI. Most PSU's above 50 quid are solid to be honest. Regardless of which one you choose. You shouldn't have any issues unless you are unlucky. Which is rare.

Regarding the GPU. Get a 480 if you want to go Nvidia, if you fancy going ATI. Get a 6950. I have the 6970 and it's perfect. Doesn't get that hot, is nice and quiet etc. It's a personal preference however, and you will be here to the end of time debating with people which is better. Everyone has their preference. Just take a look at the benchmarks on Anandtech and compare the cards you fancy. Pick the one you like.

How can you even recommend a 480? They are so hot and so loud..
OP Get a 560ti or if you have to go for ATI then a 6950..

Stick with either the Corsair TX/HX/AX series or XFX if you must.

People only recommend OCZ because they like to spend 2k+ on a system and then power it with a cheapo 50 quid POS PSU...
Clever people invest in a reputable PSU manufacturer and buy a model that will last on.

Nvidiot you have no clue.

Not if you get the one with a custom cooler which I and at least two other people were referring to. I maybe should have made that more clear. I agree the stock cooler is pretty noisy. The Gigabyte one, however... is not.

It still is relatively inefficient and regardless of the cooler used, it still chucks out a huge ammount of heat.

Even though I cannot be bothered to rise to your trolling, It does seem appropriate to point you out. You clearly are 15-16 judging by your previous posts in other threads. Also you clearly know very little about hardware since the whole "GTX480 Heat/Power" fuss seems to have skipped by you. Your incessant **** licking of stulid is getting tedious and other posters have even pointed it out. Go buy PC for Dummies and come back in 6-8 months when you have something constructive to say.

Also GG linking a thread from last year. The 8800 was an excellent card back in the day but you wouldnt recommend one now would you. Im not sure if the 8800 came out before you were born however it was truly a milestone chip.

I very much enjoyed your "Spec me an 800 quid PC thread". Your knowledge shined through...

Your spec is at 742.99 ... but how about this:

What if he buys the 560ti SOC instead of the 480 ... but then he knocks off the value of the free games he gets.

He could get a few quid for the free games, maybe £5 each ? That's 15 quid back at least. I've actually just looked on my local trade-in shops website whilst writing this and they actually offer £12 cash trade for operation flashpoint red river !

Should fall under his budget doing that but hey if noise/heat isn't an issue for him then there's no point paying the extra the 480 will be absolutely fine. I personally though would rather have the quieter/cooler card. :) Personal choice.
