Currently building a new AM3 system Based around the Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P, looking at the Dual Channel DDR3 page i really wanted the OCZ AMD Edition ram, but it seems to be quite hard to get hold of. My old core 2 system had Ocz Reapers which i got on with ok. My thoughts are either these or these anyone have any advice or compatability issues with these combo's?...

I did see that my gigabyte board would only run 1666Mhz, but don't mind the ram downclocking to it if i can get tighter timmings. Thanks for your help anyway guys i'll do abit more research before i settle on ram. NathanT if you could ask the OC team about that OCZ AMD ram and post back would be much appreciated mate thanks :).

Done my own testing gaming wise.
Graphics Card: GTX 295

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition @ 3.6GHz (3.8Ghz = add extra 2 fps)

Ram: OCZ Blade Series 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-16000 Triple Channel (Tested at various timings using 2x2GB) / OCZ Platinum 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C7 1333MHz Dual Channel (SAME RESULTS)

Crysis 1600mhz 7-7-7-24 = 54.98 fps

Crysis 1333mhz 7-7-7-24 = 54.43 fps

Crysis 1333mhz 6-6-6-24 = 54.87 fps

Crysis 1333mhz 9-9-9-24 = 52.98 fps

Conclusion

For gaming you don't need the best ram for AM3 rigs, in terms of FPS performance, spend the extra cash on a better graphics card etc.
I would just get these, probally clock them down to 1333Mhz @ 7-7-7-24 or try 6-6-6-24

OCZ Gold 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual Channel (OCZ3G16004GK) £57.99 inc VAT

It's a pity the ones for £46.99 are not in stock rated at 1333MHz @ 7-7-7-24, I've got those as well as the AMD Edition 1600Mhz @ 7-7-7-24 which need 1.70v on the Gigabyte AM3 boards as it undervolts the ram.

Nelly I have found Crucial 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz/PC3-10600 Ballistix Memory Kit CL6 1.8V (running 1333Mhz @ 6-6-6-20 2T) for £43.14 inc vat do you think these would be a better option then?...

Yes they are a great kit the tight timings will give better performance in benchmarks at least, I'm been mulling over buying some myself. :D

Plus if anything goes wrong their UK RMA service is ace 2-3 working says.

I got some Corsair 1333mhz stuff for £47, past 1333 the differences are minimal, a 1600 kit should give lovely tight timings, if you do encoding then the bandwidth helps a lot, but for gaming it doesnt.

4GB enough for the majority of people.

If your on X58 then obviously get 6GB for tripple channel.

no i'm ATHLON, i couldn't find 3 x 2 gb for Athlon anyway...but i might have missed it in the long list... there is hardly any RAM for athlon, it's all Intel.

Well you will be running dual channel hence get 2x2GB ram will be good enough for you. :)
