Hey everyone, I'm currently wanting to build my own PC & was hoping for some feedback from you guys on what you think?

Anyway, I'm hoping to go for this...

Motherboard: Asus M4A89GTD
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965
GPU: Asus 6870
PSU: Corsair 650W TX Series PSU
Case: Coolermaster II CM690
RAM: Corsair 4GB 1333Mhz

What do you guys think? Any idea on what HDD to get? And for the case, I'm not totally sure to get that yet, so if you guys can recommend another one, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

I would get 1600MHz ram as it gives you a better headroom for overclocking. See this Patriot Viper CAS8 set, which is cheaper and faster.

On a similar note, the X4 965 is the same as a 955 except with a 200MHz boost to the speed (which can be obtained by upping the Multiplier by 1 on the 955) except more costly.

Phenom II X4 955

Good choice with an ASUS board, as it means you can fit a AM3+ cpu in there after a quick BIOS flash. The board itself is well worth the money.

Good choice on the PSU, but if you're looking to save a few pennies and get a very cool looking PSU you could get this XFX 650W XXX Edition (modular, pre-braided, more amps than the Antec and made by the same company).

<3 the case choice, and I have a system near identical to yours - there's nothing I can't max atm :)

In terms of the HDD, the Seagate Barracuda is very cheap and the fastest around, but some say they aren't too reliable.

If that bothers you, the Samsung F3 is nearly as fast but more reliable (and ofc more expensive).

Case alternatives (not that I would go with them, CM690 would be my choice for that budget).

£90 region, but worth every penny:
- Lancool PC-K62

£60 region:

- HAF 912 Plus
- Coolermaster Storm

Cheers for the reply and advice mate.

The RAM you recommended looks a good deal, and with it being faster seems like an obvious choice.

The cases look cool what you mentioned, taken note of the two, see if I can save some money.

Could you recommend a DVD Drive?

Ta again.

EDIT: BTW, I saw this bundle on the site...

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-011-OP

Think its any decent?

To be quite honest, it's not worth the premium.

To overclock it to 3.6GHz all you have to do is enter the BIOS and increase the multiplier by an increment of one.

Cheap, basic, has everything you need DVD-drive: here

That would be a good system on a budget, that PSU is overkill for your components though. I've run sandy bridge systems overclocked to 4.5GHz with GTX 480s on that PSU. Try this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-042-BQ&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1083. you'll save yourself £30 and still have plenty of headroom left if you fancy upgrading, I doubt the rig you've priced up would even pull 300W at load.

Mobo capable of CF read as if wants to CF in future to me - but I could be reading too deeply into it :p

You are 100% correct if OP doesn't want to CF ofc :)

Could you guys recommend a good motherboard to go with this? I cannot find the one I want on this site, I'd like to buy all my things at once on the same site.

just installed that mob about 2 hours ago. very nice. impressed so far.

I kinda thought the same, but i was recommended it by someone on here who's opinion i would usually trust.

the M4A89GTD PRO 890gx is the best i could find, but OCUK don't sell it.
I bought it last week for £95 form another seller. it is just over budget though.

i was in a similar position lasy week, looking for a crossfire mobo:)

I got mine for £55 :p (Foxconn A7DA-S 3.0, brilliant board so far) but OcUK don't stock it anymore...

Older chipset, but CF and closer to budget:

ASUS M4A79XTD-Evo

i've said it before, and i'll say it again i'm sure. But it should be properly stated in specs, whether a motherboard supprots full crossfire or not. I admit to not doing enough research into mine, so ended up with a x16/x4 mobo:(
