Im hoping someone knows the rules regarding this, but I have a rather annoying neighbour who is two doors down. For the past year and more he has been building an extension, as we are terrace houses the noise from the hammering etc. travels quite well through next door to our bedrooms. He spends all weekend and evenings until 9pm hammering and doing god knows what else. It certainly makes bed time fun at 7pm for our baby.

Are there any rules about when you can do building work in evenings and weekend, some stuff I googled suggests you can't do it at all on Sundays??

It is also interesting he works for the council housing repairs team and is obviously using their equipment as there are several vans of theirs outside his house.

Have you tried having a word with him, I had a similar experience a few years ago and I just asked the guy if he could keep the noise to a minimum at night and he was reasonable about it and apologized for keeping me awake. If he is and idiot about it then go and speak to your local council and they will send someone out to measure the noise.

tried that on easter sunday, he said he would but continued for the whole day

If he makes more noise than you feel is acceptable, you are legally allowed to burn his house to the ground. That'll learn him.

I would just speak to the council and get them out to check, usually it is the enviromental health guys that come out for domestic noise complaints.

I can empathise with this. We currently have developer making his mark on the house adjacent to hours and its been no end of noise and general mickey taking.

Permitted 'development' hours are between 8am-5(might be 6)pm Monday - Friday as far as I am aware, though this is of course open to negotiation with good neighbours.

Our friendly developer follows this to the letter, but this is of little comfort when he is running a petrol driven disc cutter at 8am :(
