Building Oblivion

This tbh. I use source control for it's intended use all the time, but never though of using it like that. Thumbs up! :)

I tried it with subversion first (already had that installed for more normal projects), but it excreted bricks when I tried to check in 5GB. A sandal wearing friend always extolled the virtues of Git, so thought i'd give it a whirl and it's working alright so far. Had to hack the executable to be PAE aware to handle some of the larger binaries, no 64bit version seemed to be available :(

Basically got sick of installing the same things over and over again when I accidentally broke the game and version control seemed the obvious solution.

just reinstalled oblivion, btw i HIGHLY recommend getting deadly reflex v 6 as it makes all animations a lot smoother and more tolerable when fighting and adds kool things like throwing weapons and dismemberment

Looking good. For the record you've got the same link for both the Shivering Isles and Mods patch, bit of copy/paste fail.

Nice work.

Just a note of caution - some people might be tempted to use the 4BG patcher on other games - you may potentially run into issues with some games especially those using PunkBuster or similiar anti-cheat systems.

I'm getting tempted to do a fresh install of Oblivion and remod it now :p

I'll probably regret it when it comes to installing FCOM again though...

Great thread - will hopefully stop a new thread every week on which mods to install for Oblivion. If I had more time at the moment I would absolutely install these mods. Pretty much just waiting for Skyrim now.

Very good job, this is a well thought out guide.
Although I'm of the BAIN > OMOD opinion, and using wrye bash for most things.

If you're prepared to read about the numerous issues and how to fix them yourself. I'd feel safer sticking with v5 at the moment.

I've only had a skim through this but there is a heck of a lot of work been put into these posts...sldsmkd you sir are a God among men.

I will one day get round to finishing Oblivion and then I can start again using this guide. :D

This guide is bloddy amazing, i won't bother start installing any of it till the guides finished and then be blown away :D

Everything up to the environment section is basically done. You can run through it as it it stands now.

this is a excellent post :) when its all done ill install the game and start modding :D

thanks a lot for all the work you have put into this

*sorts out the load order with BOSS and installs Streamline, Stutter Remover and Fast Exit*

Should smooth things out nicely i hope... now lets see if it still works :p

Nah already got FCOM, Oblivion XP and a few other small mods installed. I was just adding in those few mods in the hope they make things smoother.

Fast Exit definitely works (its nice to not have Oblivion crash all the damn time on exit!), but i can't seem to get anywhere with Streamline. The OMOD didn't do anything, it seemed to work, .esp activated and everything, but i couldn't access the ingame menu. Did it manually and i got it working the first time but now it won't work again ><
