right so i decided to build a new rig what with it being christmas and all ;p *evil laugh*

I have built loads of pc's in the past, but 2008 is when i started looking at water cooling. I say start, because I chose a ready made kit.

http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/product/chassis/fulltower/tai-chi/vb5000sna.asp

anyway long story short, my old system was:

MB: Maximus Extreme
CPU: Q6600
Memory: XMS1333 4GB DDR3 (4X1GB) 1333MHZ
Graphics: 2 single ATI X3870 PCI-E in SLI
HardDrives: 3 x 36GB raptors
PSU: 1500W Thermaltake ;p modular future proof

so far I have bought another case&psupply, and moved it all into that the new case taking with me a few components ***in short term.

New system so far Win 7 64 prof

MB: Asus Rampage III Extreme --took me a while to get it to work with iphone
CPU: i7 950
Memory: XMS1333 4GB DDR3 (4X1GB) 1333MHZ ***
Graphics: single ATI X3870 PCI-E in SLI ***
HardDrives: OCZ IBIS 100GB (zoom zoom)
PSU: 1500W Thermaltake ;p modular future proof

I have ripped out bits of thermaltake case watercooling that i didnt like (pump&res) and replaced with:

XSPC Acrylic Dual 5.25" Reservoir for Laing D5
Swiftech Laing D5 Vario MCP655
EK-Supreme HF - Full Nickel CPU Water Block (had the old supreme b4)

Only slight problem i had with the EK supreme was that i could only get 3 of the screw pins out, so i couldnt see what jet plate was in, it looks from the diagram that it must be plate one as its the only one missing out of the 5...shame that I cant change it but pin head wouldnt turn, and its kinda worn now with me trying to force it...sigh

i downloaded FAH which is good and easy to use, maxed out my processors and ran it for a while... temp went to 70c is this too hot for stock? ..should i replace the radiator? or have i knacked the ek supreme?

What do you reckon to graphics cards? wait for the 6890's?

Memory? I keep lookin at the two 24gb that are on OC atm :) has any one installed that amount of ram in this mb?

Yes, temps way too high for that kind of cooling on a stock 950, something majorly wrong there! I'm not too sure how to troubleshoot how to fix that but i'm sure someone else will.

I'd get the 580 now because it is the best card NV will be bringing out for while now (except the dual GPU that will most likely come out) i don't like ATI's drivers.

If you're only gaming then 24GB of ram is pointless and mega overkill! 6GB is plenty. Is gaming the only use for this pc?

mmm damn, although looking at it i did think 70c was too high. iam guessing that its probably going to be ek, ho hum. i do have the old ek supreme in a box so maybe its worth gettin some more thermal paste , and trying with that to see if it makes any difference.

yeah true ati drivers are a bit of a pain, i always had nvidia before the latest set of cards. at least iam not tied to either on the new mb.

mostly gaming, but i might use it for database work too which is why i was considering it.

cheers for your comments btw burrell

mmm tried reseating ek surpreme hf with less paste, same up to 70c

tried my original ek supreme 70c... mmm maybe my rad aint up to it...

when i stop hammering the cpu it drops down to 50c almost immediately

Yeah, much happier.

I have let some of the bubbles settledown today and added some temperature probes.
