Hi all so built myself a beast of a gaming machine, but been told i should run a few programs to make sure the cpu and everything else is working ok.

But which ones should i be using ? :)

sorry this is my first build so a newbie

many thanks

Stress test software is suitable to test but its unlikely you'll ever run a program that will push as hard so if it fails it probably isn't an issue.

Cpu-prime95
Gpu-any kind of benchmarking/heaven/catzilla. Another one is called furmark but you can literally damage your gpu this one. Rather unecesary.
Ram-memtest (prime95 blend test will also do ram)
Hard drives/ssd-wouldn't advise stressing them but to test use hd-tune tests health reports.

I think that pretty much covers the hardware worth testing. Mobo/psu will be tested as a side effect.

You could also use pass mark/3dmark to compare how good your system is compared to similar hardware.

Out of interest what hardware do you have?
