So I have just built my computer and its seems to be working. I get to the point where it tries to boot of the HD or DVD and the Win7 disks spins up in the drive a few times, I wait then I get told:

DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

I have one DVDRW and one HD. Both are connected to the mother with SATA cables. They are recognised in the BIOS and I see them when I boot.

I have attached the DVDRW so that its is on IDE Channel 1 in Master while the HD is on IDE Channel 2 also in Master.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for the help!

What boot sequence do you have selected?
Have the primary setup as the DVD and secondary as harddrive for now. Then wait for the "press any key to boot from CD" message during boot.

I tried that and it didnt work. I have also tried using the "boot menu" on my BIOS to select the boot device (I selected CD ROM) but it did work either.

When I put the DVD in the drive it just spins up and then down and repeats....makes some strange noises meanwhile my screen is black is the words "Boot from CD/DVD: _" and a flashing cursor.

Is it possible that the DVD or the Driver itself is broken?

Arghhh...that could be a problem as I dont have another drive. I might just go out and buy a 4GB USB and boot off that.

Had this many a time.

Make sure the connections to the DVD drive are secure and in place - SATA connections pop out so easily..

Try a different SATA port if it's that type of connector.

If you have another boot disk, try that just to make sure it's not the Win 7 disk.

Hey,

I did that this morning. Tried changing the IDE channel from 1 to 3. BIOS registered the change... (also surely everything is connected as it should if the BIOS finds the drive)

Dont have an other boot disk to hand but its a retail win7 disk so it should be fine?!

Still no luck...

Thats not good....

I purchased a 4GB USB stick so I am going to try and boot of that. I didnt really check the connectors to the HDD as I just assumed it was the DVD so I will do that when I get home.

Is the hard drive formatted and partitioned? If the drives show in Bios, the connections should be good.

Download a Linux live disk any flavour and try that.

If I've ever had this problem occur on a working PC it has been because I have some kind of USB storage plugged in E.G a mobile phone. The only time I've had a problem similar to this installing windows was when it turned out to be the RAM. The install got further than yours but just said the drive was CD was unreadable.

I am going to try an make a bootable USB see if I can install windows like that and then if that doesnt work then I will try this Ultimateboot CD. Argh. Why cant it just work.

I have the same problem here as well.

New built, POST everthing is fine. Insert the Win7 CD, and then the on the screen saids ' select a bootable media then press any number keys'

set the CD rom at 1st and harddrive at 2st sequence in the BIOS - Not work

Tired a diff sata cable - 6G Sata to 3 G Sata - Not the problem

Disk boot fine in my laptop...

Could it be the sata power cable's probelm? - one cable connect with HD and the CD rom

By the way, is a LG CD ram..
