Im looking to fit low energy bulbs in the kitchen light but im not sure of the type of bulb. This is what they currently have:

Its marked with "Tesco 40w 240v A1" which makes me think its an A1 type bulb but they dont seem to exist according to google. R80 is the closest i found and they are much larger. This bulb is 45mm wide by 80mm long.

This is the light which has 4 of these things:

Seems kinda wasteful having 160w of bulbs for a single light. Hence me looking to replace them :)

While we're on a roll here ive made a bit of a boneheaded move and smashed the bathroom light cover :o

This is the light:

Ill probably have to just buy a new light because google turns up nothing for "massive 157415" or any other numbers on that fixture so will anything fit in that space as long as its IP44 rated? I mean those two star screws holding the current fixture in place, it will be the same for other lights and i wont have to go drilling new holes in the ceiling etc?

Probably screwed into a joist, or bearer fixed there, new fitting might be same spacing, but you should pick up a joist.

I've got these fittings (E14 SES) all over the new house - 4 in the bathroom, 6 in the landing, 4 in the kitchen, all fitted with insanely wasteful spot lamps when we moved in.

I've just fitted them with Eveready 7w 4200K MiniSpiral energy savers. Very bright and very "cold" white light (some people prefer warm but I like these!)

You have to be careful with energy savers in these sort of fittings, sometimes the body of the bulb is too large to fit into the housing but these Evereadys do the job. I found mine in the local pound shop but you can get them on Ebay for about £1.50 each depending how many you get.
