Im currently on a bulk, but I've noticed that I am putting on some fat around the belly. Im already slightly chubby so would like to reduce this and was wondering if some Morning cardio may help?

My idea is On Gym Training (weight lifting) days I'd do 20 mins of light Cardio on a bike machine (aim for 200 - 300 calories burnt) first thing in the morning after only a pint of water.

Then 40 minutes of Cardio on a bike machine (aim for 400 - 500 calories burnt) on days of not training.

I understand intense and prolonged cardio on an empty stomach will munch into muscle, but surely a light 20 mins wouldn't be a bad idea?

a bit of light cardio is fine no harm in that, i dont what your diet is like but it's sounds like it needs improving.

Putting on muscle at the same time as loosing fat is extremely hard and not worth the effort unless you really know what your doing.

Pick one goal and work towards it, if your putting on fat your eating a bit too much, so adjust accordingly and keep lifting heavy :)

okay using daily burn this is what I average in a typical Training day..

Daily Nutrition 2681 Calories
64.3g of Fat
230.5g of Protein
295.4g of Carbs

Breakfast - 1 Scoop of PHD synergy iso 7 + 60g of kellogs cornflakes and low fat milk.

10 am - 2 egg ommlette (nothing added) + 1 banana + 1 chicken breast

1 pm (pre workout) - 300g jacket potato + 1 typical can of tuna and a little spoon of mayo.

2pm Training session

4 pm (post workout) 2 scoops of Musclefuel STS

6:30 pm - dinner 150g mashed potato + 1.5 chicken breasts + 120g of Mixed veg.

9:30 pm 1 scoop of Muscle fuel sts

11pm - bed.

was at the gym earlier, and was told that its more of a mental thing. The fact I am training and bulking means that yes I am probabally putting on a minimal amount of extra fat but the majority is water retention from creatine, and my abs growing in size and thus pushing the rest out. I still think ill give the morning cardio a go, atleast it'll help keep things at bay till I cut in 2 months. Cheers guys for all the help :D!

I always advise Corned Beef for people wanting to bulk 2 tins a week for 4weeks should put on decent muscle (provided workout is pukka) with general fat gains (essentially bulking is defined as gaining both fat and muscle from the diet)

Calories in < Calories out = Lose fat
Calories in > Calories out = Gain fat

The rate at which the above happens is determined by the size of the Calories Surfeit/Deficit. You will not build muscle on a calorie deficit, you can only maintain. You wont lose fat on a calorie surfeit.

The better you control your diet the better you can minimise the unwanted effects of a Surfeit or Deficit of calories.

As said it's possible to do both, but very hard - I've spent the last 4years+ learning! ;)

Fat around the gut can mean insulin resistance and/or elavated cortisol levels.

The whole calories in vs out thing isn't always a good measure for fat storage or fat removal. Whilst it holds true in a very general sense, it's no the whole story. You won't lose fat necessarily if you lower your calories, it's what calories you lower. More often than not people can lower calories and still keep a high percentage of bodyfat.

If I was on a faster better connection I'd do a bigger reply.

As has been mentioned, choose a goal, and keep at it for at least 6 months (modifying your routines and diet within this time to suit). Then re-address/evaluate and modify.

Ahh I understand that. Im not on about lowering my calories thou, its taken me a while to get passed the mental block I had to eat more food and am quite enjoying my 6 meals and 2.5 - 3k calories per day.

My aim is to bulk as best as possible but I do not want to get huge, just larger than I am. Given a few more weeks I will hit a cut where I will carry on and hit my target just before my 22nd birthday. I would just like to lessen the bulk around the midsection as much as possible before my mental diet issues kick in and I go back to hardly eating again, hence asking about morning cardio.

My aim is to bulk as best as possible but I do not want to get huge,

You wont, getting huge requires many years of extreme sweat.

Getting abit bigger will still take the best part of a year to pack on a decent amount of size, depending on what you would rate as 'abit bigger'.
