Hey guys

Just about to move house, ive been with nildram for the last 3 years, 2 meg service, not bad really. thing is im paying £25 for that... now ive looked around and can get 16 meg from bulldog for the same..

Now i usually get pings of about 10-20 on cs servers... with nildram, what do you guys get with bulldog?

Cheers!

I was with bulldog for a year, just moved to NTL cos it was cheaper and i live to far away from my exchange to see anything good from ADSL2+

What do i think of them? Well.

The connection was pretty good, the ping for gaming was superb in HL2 based games to the Uk servers i played it showed as sub 15ms. sometimes 9ms. I know these are not always accurate but "it was nice"

Customer services, well they suck compared to nildram, who i also used as my 1st adsl provider for 3 years.

Id you dont have any faults with the bulldog line, Its great when you have a problem you could be in trouble.

I think now you have to sign up for a 12 month contract, that may be a problem?

You also have to take their telephone line @ £10:50 a month. for adsl2+ i think.

Oh yes 1 more thing Billing, Some people have flawless billing and they use direct debit to take the money, Other people, myself included didnt see a single bill in 12 months. Every 6 months i used to just get a threatening letter that they would cut me off, and id pay a lump sum. I tried 5 or 6 times to set up a DD and everytime somewhere along the line it cocked up. I finally gave up.

Check the distance from the local exchange to the property you will be moving into. Samknows has a checker and gives a rouch idea of a straight line distance. Anything under 1KM and you should be laughing and get a nice big Sync speed. Anything about 2km or more and chances are you wont see much from ADSL2+ and 8mbit will be about 4-5-6mbit depending on line quality and the quality of the router.

Well theres plenty to think about also check the ADSLguide forums here for Bulldog http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=bulldog THey will answer everything.

all in all Id say 8/10 for line (i had a few problems with random disconnects but i think it was a local issue)
Customer service 5/10 and if you cant speak Urdu, take a few lessons.

Well I have been with bulldog for the last 2 and a bit years and have been very happy with the service. The only times I have ever contacted them is to do with upgrades to my account I have gone from 2MB to now waiting for my 16MB upgrade (just think two years down the line we may be even faster :D)

But like many companies their customer services suffer a lot and it does take several calls before you get through to someone who can actually help.

I have only ever had one mishap when my line went down. It did take several phone calls but they did end up phoning me back several times to make sure I had my services back up and running.

I ping my server in Redbus and get a reply in 7ms. :)

Great speeds overall, just a shame about the customer services and finance department.

Yeah, the only thing to note is that CS sucks. I've not had any problems, so no reason to contact BD. But I have heard stories of people that have had problems.
I think their CS is outsourced, so it's just some dummy in front of a screen reading from a script rather than anyone that knows anything about what's going on at BD.

Plus they seem to have problems "remembering" that you have set-up a Direct Debit with them. You set it up, it's all fine, your bank confirms that the DD is set up. But they "Don't have any record of it", and take your details again, and charge you a £2 "not paid by DD" charge. Bit of a joke if it happens to you.

edit: But in response to your question, I usually get pings of around 15ms, sometimes less, on their 8mb service (playing CS:S).

CS is the worst ever! They carried on charging me 4 months are after I disconnected and moved house. They even acknowleged that my line was disconnected but carried on charging me.

In the end it took a very very 'stern' email to the director of customer relations. He replied almost instantly saying sorry and that his PA would call me to sort it out. She did and the issue was sorted and my bill was wiped. Shame it takes that kind of lenghts to get it sorted though.

As for pings, i routinely got pings of 5ms and occassionally less lol
