Going to respray my bumpers as the front has two chips and the rear has three areas where some of the laquer has peeled, its the preperation I need a hand with...

Can someone give me a list of how they prep plastic body parts for spraying?

What grit should I use to rub them down with? Would I be better rubbing them down and spraying them as complete, or trying to remedy the paint damage and blending it in? I want to do respray them completely, just lazyness setting in! :( :p

I should be getting a loan of my friends compressor/grav gun so I should be able to ditch the idea of cans. I want to get the finish as best as I possibly can.

Thanks :)

Depends on the stone chips. A complete repray will be better than just touching up the chips as blending it in can be extremely hard. If the stone chips havent gone though the primer than all you'll need to do it rub the lacquer off through to the colour coat. 600/800 grit wet and dry will be fine and should give a good key for the colour coat to be applied to the existing colour coat..

Yep you should be able to perfectly fine.

You may want to do a tester first as some paints can react as they may be different types which would mean you have to strip all the layers off and re-primer it

so no primer on top of the colour, just colour and laquer if it looks ok...?

failing that rub the bugger down to the plastic and key it?

Here is a bit of the damage FYI:

There is the first bit, with more round the back under the inset for the rear reg plate lights (almost impossible to see in that photo due to light and angle). It is not the original bumper as the car had a bump at some point. The rust on the corner of the slam panel above the bumper and below the cluster has been cut back and new plates welded in behind and filled then smoothed. Pics were 6 months ago befire I picked it up. The cluster was drained as well, some people have no care for the vehicles! :p

Yes, no need for primer. Just rub the lacquer off and spray the colour coat onto the existing colour coat.

If you go down to the actual bumper plastic you will need to use a plastic primer and use 400 gritt when flatting it.

That a renault 19? :p

Sure is buddy! :D A bloody expensive one. Other than that at the back, and the usual air vent rust its not too bad. I'm so glad that big horrible hole isn't there anymore!

Thanks mate, thats saved me a job and a half.

Hopefully get them done at the weekend then!

Off to have a look at a F7R meg lump at the weekend to stick in it, or at least use the bottom end to go with the 1.8 F7P head I have just finished building/polishing up. :D With any luck.... ;)

Nice its what i have in mine, well a williams bottom end with F7P head :) hope it all goes well
