**** - Burgled :(

When I was younger my family home got broken into 3 times (that was with an alarm being present too). Twice at Christmas & once in the middle of summer. We ended up having retractable security gates inside on all the windows down stairs, a gate on the inside for the back door & an external one for the front. It cost a grand or so but it sure as hell saved us the hassle of replacing all the items the swines stole (they even stole our hoover once)!!

Our gates looked like this

You and your g/f have my sympathy, it's a horrid situation to find yourselves in. Gl in getting your stuff back, best thing as you have said yourself is some form of deterrent & as others have mentioned house insurance.

*Hugs to you both*

Had my GT mountain bike stole from my shed last night also!

and it must have been planned cause they had to go through a arch way thru a car park and down a back lane that leads to only 3 Gardens and mine was the middle one, they went into my shed and stole my bike, left everthing else and they even didnt touch any of my cloths on the line and some pretty expensive stuff on there!

little scummy ****ers seriously annoying!

ill find em tho bike is pretty rare and ive only ever seen 1 around where i live, and torquay is quiet a small place also!

i feel your pain!

We've never had burglars in our home since I was born, I'd loathe to think burglars would cone in here. Politics are going in peoples favor here though :D, the current government promised to adjust the law so you may beat the **** out of them ***** without being prosecuted. It's really tempting to ram a hammer in the head of a ****ing thief in your own house.

When I get my own place I'll definitely have a webcam hanging over recording 24/7, the best locks on my door, burglar bars, alarm, etc... Just thinking about the fact of some ***** going through my stuff in my home makes me .

How exactly did they get in? break the glass? or are your windows externally beaded? If they're externally beaded then I'd get all your windows replaced as externally beaded plastic windows are a thief magnet. They can break in almost silently, which means they could break in while you're sleeping .

Also if you have any doors that are toughened glass these are easily broken into. A few seconds and they're in, again almost silently.

Window bars are a good idea, anything that is going to make it hard work for them will deter them I'd have thought. If it was me I'd get any toughened units replaced with laminated, expensive but I also wouldn't want thieves breaking in, possibly while I'm in bed. At least then it would take them longer and they would have to smash their way through, rather than a quick tap with an emergency hammer.

Good luck getting any sentimental stuff back, the other stuff is easily replaced.

I think you are forgetting that new Alienware Laptop you had just been given as a gift, as well as that 50" LCD TV.... iirc im sure you posted on these forums about your new Netbook and IPOD Touch that you had also got as gifts for working so hard.

Cash? Does your policy cover cash, if so - max amount was left in your moneybox.

Best thing to do, as this is a terrible thing to have happen to anyone is max out your policy with what has been stolen... if you havent got receipts and they want them, try to borrow them or something. Dont go easy on it, dont be silly but get your moneys worth.

I think he was being serious... unfortunatly if it looked like easy pickings its not unheard of for them to wait til they think you've had stuff replaced on insurance and do it again.

This!

I am sorry to hear you have been burgled, it is a much worse crime than the law gives it credit for. Changes peoples attitudes to their own home, the place they should be safe. Watch ebay for local postcode see if any of your goods appear.

Gutted for you mate! Thankfully I haven't been in a house that's been burgled since I was a kid but it's a horrible feeling isn't it :(

Personally, if you think it's a real possibility they'll come back, I'd be tempted to pretend to go away for a few days - leave the car somewhere else live in darkness as much as possible - then if they come back, beat the **** out of them!! (or maybe just hog-tie the b******s and call the police while they're squirming on your carpet!)

People who do what you advise should be made an example of IMO.

Claim what you lost not what your max cover is.

Thats horrible. One of my biggest fears is being burgled, would feel so helpless if it happened whilst I was out, makes me pretty paranoid about locks on the doors and windows that I need to check each one 3 times (having a pretty much non-existance short term memory doesnt help either).

Luckily (if you can call it that) weve only had small incidents - car broken into twice - nothing taken first and tyre pump taken second time. house been robbed twice and all they got was the hoover each time (someone was in the house both times to see them and make then leg it with just the hoover). EDIT: and by make them leg it with just the hoover, I dont mean we made them take the hoover and do some sprint work holding it....

Either way as people say cash convertors is a good bet. Also might want to have a look to see if theres any car boot sales nearish the area. its a longshot but catching them with your gear is possible or at least finding some of it.

We've had our fair share of these ********* god knows how many times over the years. They used to get in the garage and nick the lawn mower, garden vac, tools etc. They've been in the house a few times as well.

We've had two of out cars nicked off the drive in the night as well. And my wife was drive-by mugged in an Asda car park 10 years ago.

I guess I can understand why somebody would steal a PS3 / TV whatever, but reading these posts it seems you can sometimes expect to have your clothes stolen also (including the OP's GF's ugg boots).

I'm sorry but stealing second hand clothes to wear is proper, proper *****. They would smell of the person you robbed and that's just....spooky.

Really sorry to hear that OP :( I live in a scum riddled area and hear about people being robbed and mugged, thankfully it's not happened to me but I hear about it so much that it feels like it's only a matter of time :( It must be a bloody horrible feeling you have right now. Like other have said, contents insurance will cover the possessions.

Have you thought about getting a timer for one of you lights ? so that a light can be on during the night time ? could even go one further and put a radio on a timer as well to make some noise so that from the outside it looks like someone is in watching the TV. while you are not there. Just an idea.

Get some decent locks for the windows and make sure your curtains are fully covering the windows so the scumbags can't see your stuff. Filthy filthy horrible people !

That is really bad. Look on the bright side, the place hasn’t been completely trashed and it sounds as if nothing of great sentimental value has gone. I hope your insurance sorts it out quickly.
