EA do release a lot of games, however they only publish them, the faults are there at the developers side - in the case of Battlefield 2, DICE.
EA do a lot more good than bad as a publisher, they take the financial weight that can ruin a game to allow companies to get their games out, sometimes they will push games out to a deadline (those which are likely to make a low profit) and others they allow longer to finalise a game (like they did with Battlefield 2). Yes EA do buy licences, thats because some genius executive decided that circa 2000, however that rule was abolished last year to allow for more original titles (which is something EA always did well in the past).
