IGN have there review for Burnout online now,
http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/846/846020p1.html
Scores the same on both versions, infact its the same review lol

Regardless of everything we've talked about, the most important part of any Burnout game, and the reason they've been so successful in the past, is simply how well (and fast) the driving mechanics work. Criterion has nailed the formula once again, offering gamers the pinnacle of arcade racing mechanics with cars that control exactly how you would expect them to, with the perfect amount of inferred weight sent to the player. As well, the sense of speed we've seen in the past is here 110%, with roadside objects blurring by your outside mirrors at uncountable speeds.

Lastly, it's worth mentioning that Criterion has also once again delivered a game that runs incredibly smooth and sounds fantastic. The game runs at a blistering 60fps, which ties perfectly with its controls, and it looks impressive at that. The crash effects are fantastic, slowing down to show you your crumpling wreck as the steering wheel is shoved into the driver's seat. Were there a virtual driver sitting there, he'd be dead.

Closing Comments
Burnout Paradise has its share of flaws, but it's also incredibly fun. The change to an open world brought its share of issues, like having to use the map as a crutch to get around for a while, but it also allows for freedom unseen in any recent racing game. Most importantly though, Criterion has once again delivered a racing experience that can best be described as controlled chaos, one where even crashing is immensely rewarding. If you're even a remote fan of racing games, be sure to check this out.

9.0 Presentation
The interface is especially slick, especially the online stuff, but the in-game compass isn't so great.
9.0 Graphics
While it doesn't quite have the shine of some other racers on the market, it runs amazingly well, especially considering how much is going on, and the crashes are stellar.
9.5 Sound
The engine and crash effects are fantastic. Brilliant work here.
8.5 Gameplay
Perfect controls at blazing speeds are only hampered by having to rely on the map to get around and not being able to restart on the spot.
9.0 Lasting Appeal
Getting to 100% will take you forever. But you'll probably try.
8.8
Great

8.5 Gameplay
Perfect controls at blazing speeds are only hampered by having to rely on the map to get around and not being able to restart on the spot.

That is the only bit I had reservations about from the demo, the constant diving to restart races etc, but I'll see how it goes, review sounds OK, but I would buy this anyway I guess. I'm not a big review reader these days tbh, certainly don't let a review change my mind about a game I want, although it may be enough to make a purchase into a rental.

This one is a purchase for deffo. Although I reserve the right to sell it cheaply on MM if I don't get on with the Crash modes :D

Edit: This is what they said about Crash modes/Showtime:
ign said:
The Crash mode of old is essentially gone, replaced by Showtime events. Rather than racing up to a streetlight and spinning your wheels to begin it like most every other event, Showtime can be started at any time (even as you're already crashing) by hitting two shoulder buttons. Your car will immediately begin flipping and you'll start racking up a score for the street that you started the Showtime on. While the street that you begin the event on is where your score will apply to, you can actually flip and crash across the entirety of Paradise City if you're good enough.

There are major differences between Showtime and the Crash events of old, however. You can keep your crash going so long as you keep moving, which you can prolong by bouncing your car if you have some boost. Boost is earned every time you hit a car, which also increases your score, of course. However, you only earn points for cars that you actually hit, not those that crash around you, and you only earn multipliers for hitting busses. The bus-only multiplier thing is disappointing because you can go for 10 minutes without seeing a bus during one Showtime, but start another and hit a handful right away, thereby giving you exponentially more points simply because of randomized luck.

Regardless of that, there isn't a whole lot of skill involved in the Showtimes, aside from seeing how absurdly long you can keep it going. But the required scores are easy as pie to hit, and since there's no planning or anything involved in what you're doing, it feels like most of the challenge (and thereby fun) of the old Crash modes is gone.

It does sound as bad as I thought (too much randomness and lack of skill involved), but there are other modes, so I am not gonna let my perceived disappointment at one mode, ruin the whole game for me.

Wouldn't worry about the 'not being able to restart on the spot' thing, from what I have heard every single junction starts a new event, so rather than drive back to the one you have just done, forget about it and get on with the next one, I think thats how they want you to play.

I think this one is a 'buyer', loved the last one. Theres always fun to be had in racing games and crashing.

Just hope theres no invisible mysterious pot-holes in this one :>

Bet you still won't be seen online though :p

only 8 days to go :(

(Getting it Friday as staff discount will make it cheaper then pre-ordering :D)

yep already pr-ordered, map doesn't bother me i didn't really have any issue with it, plus the outside of the city routes look intense. I don't think this one will be completed as fast as Burnout Revenge thats for sure

Dunno if i will get this on the PS3 or the 360.

The only reason i would get this on the 360 is more folk i know online will get the 360 verion.

But thats the point, if it is a tough race, you might want to replay the race several times to learn the course etc. Having to drive back to do that ruins the game.

As a result, I won't be buying it. Thankfully the Demo warned me off.

Is it just me who is getting real bored with the free roaming city thing? Has it not been done to death? And I still can't see what it adds to a game like Burnout.

Anyway, ignore me, just my tuppence.

I will only buy it if there are enough people I know playing online.

My favorite feature (the only one I really played) in the old burnouts was Crash Junction and as they seem to have removed it I definatley will not be buying it just for single player.

It's not a typical burnout thats for sure, and if i'm honest I hate the free roaming thing, I'm just trying to look at it under a different light and am hoping for the best.

I agree, I loved need for speed underground, but then suddenly NFSU 2 had a free roaming city, which ruined the game for me

Yeap i am bored of free roaming and sandbox games. a lot of them just do it for the sake of it.

I wouldn't mind free roaming as an option, but you could just play the game event by event if you wanted too.

15 posts and ~J~ hasn't posted yet? :p

I enjoyed the demo, but the lack of an immediate restart is annoying. I can imagine later on in the game when you are trying to nail a particular challenge, having to drive across the whole city just to try again will get annoying. It might seem like fun to begin with, but looking back at Revenge and the amount of times some challenges needed attempting I can see it getting very frustrated.

I'll no doubt get this at some point, but certainly not at launch.

Don't think I'll be bothering with this either. I think they had things just right with Burnout Revenge and the free-roam thing is going to suck. I enjoyed it for 2 minutes in TDU and soon got bored of having no structure to follow and I think this will be the same. It's suited to something like GTA, but not a driving game.

I thought crash junctions were the worst and I think burnout will be benefitted from having to roam an open city finding things. :p.
