Its burns night next Wednesday and being a fan of hearty food I thought I'd share my plans for it here.

I'm planning on -

High Quality Beef Sausages,
Veggy Haggis
Mash,
Mashed Swede,
Peas,
Carrots,
Beef Gravy

I'm not planning on inviting anyone over so it will just be myself and my girlfriend with 2 huge plates of food.

Share your meal plans here, I'm looking forward to the read. Lets post some pictures of our meals too!

Ian :)

I MUST have haggis this year because I always forget to get some in. Anyone got a good recipe for a whisky sauce?

I'll be having haggis, neap and tatty with a few drams. I have haggis quite often though, so it's not really a treat. I love haggis, and it's so cheap!

Yeah forgot at the last minute the last couple of years, but will get some haggis in. Wonder if the shops will price drop some malts? Jura 10 is still on sale but im about to finish a bottle of that and want a change.

Also Veggie haggis is nice, was the first I tried, but still prefer the carnivore version.

Never had the opportunity to try haggis, though I'm not sure if the visceral description puts me off.......

strange considering I willingly eat sausages.

Here's my Burns supper:

Only MacSween's haggis due to living in Englandshire. It's not a bad haggis but a bit light on the spice - a generous sprinkle of white pepper helps with that. Served with clapshot (that's what we call tatties and neeps mashed together in the northern isles), washed down with a glass of 16yo Dailuaine

I managed to mutter the following as I carried it through:

Rabbie Burns said:
Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,
Great chieftain o' the puddin-race!
Aboon them a' ye tak your place..........

That's all I can ever remember :o

What made my Burns night even better getting a bottle of Cardhu 12 yr old for 20 quid from sainsburys by a mis price! Made up for my OH coming back with the half strength stubbies, I'll let her off though, for a south of the borderer she makes a fine burns supper.

I had a really crap Haggis. Tesco was out of Halls, which I quite like and have semi-regularly so had to go with some other muck. It was sticky and quite hard to eat. When mixed up with the mash and neep it was ok but quite disappointing. I also felt quite ill so only had one dram and couldn't manage any pudding.

The smoked haddock chowder I got from Tesco was nice though.
