:) Not seen a thread on this yet.

To all those who are indulging tonight in the memory of Robert Burns - have a good one! My haggis is on the stove, just about to do the neeps and tatties and the bottle of Balvennie Double Wood has had its cork pulled.

My favourite bit of Burns' poetry, from Tam O'Shanter:

When chapman billies leave the street,
And drouthy neibors, neibors, meet;
As market days are wearing late,
And folk begin to tak the gate,
While we sit bousing at the nappy,
An' getting fou and unco happy,
We think na on the lang Scots miles,
The mosses, waters, slaps and stiles,
That lie between us and our hame,
Where sits our sulky, sullen dame,
Gathering her brows like gathering storm,
Nursing her wrath to keep it warm.

Had an event at work tonight, about 120 of us. Piping in the Haggis with genuine scottish bagpipe guy, an awesome scottish Mater of the Ceremonies with fantastic reading of "Address To A Haggis" and a great (but every un-PC) Scottish comedian to finish off with :) - not sure the senior exec appreciated him!!!

All set in an old chuch with plenty of atmostphere and wine and good times all round :)

My housemate cooked loads of food including haggis for us all. She broke out the whiskey and just as everyone settled down to start drinking I had to go to work for night shift  Suppose I'll have to make up for it on the weekend :D

Having just got in, I'd say it's been a good night :p Haggis, neeps and tatties, whiskey, Burns, and..poker. Of course.

My first up in Scotland. Good times :)

No haggis for me last night, was on my own and it would have been a waste. I did however have a few drams :D
Aw poor Jamie Wamie :p

Maybe next year we should have an OcUK Burns' Supper Meet. We already have Rotty on board to toast the Haggis. :)

Thing is tho, with all the global warming and stuff, I don't know if Haggii will be in abundance next season. Seems to be getting earlier and earlier for the season. Maybe with this Burns' Suppers will take place on St Andrew's Day in future years.
