Burnt CPU Power Socket/Cable

Hey Guys

I have a load of machines all running software using 100% cpu most of the time and recently a few of them have been shutting off on their own.

I open them up and the top two pins/holes on the 4pin cpu cable and socket have burnt and melted. This has happened on roughly 6 machines in the last 3 months.

The machines are running FX-8350 CPUs, 8GB Ram, 500gb HDD.

This problem has occured on two different motherboards and pwoer supplies.

MB: Asus M5A78L-M USB3 and Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3.

PSU: Corsair CX 430w and Coolermaster Elite 500w.

The only thing I can think of is that the power supplies are failing and taking the motherboards with them.

Any ideas on how I can stop this reoccuring?

This is worrying as i've just bought a system with similar specs. It seems the cpu is drawing more power than what is rated for the motherboards causing the contacts to melt
 
The processor is pulling more power and burning ur mobo then :/ Whats the rated tdp of the 8350? Its probably running wrong.

If you could inform us of some figures we may be able to help

Are you running them at stock or overclocked ? What voltage are the currently set at ? I know uv tried 2 different boards but if your boards are overvolting them crazily it may cause this

Yeah, i read about that on antoher thread... and didn't realise how it affected the user until now..

I guess there are a few things you can do:

Switch to Intel

Get a 6300 (i think it's only the 8***'s that have this issue)

Or set the Power Managment setting to make the max load 90% (not sure where it would be safe though)..

It only seems to be Piledriver related.. :)
 
Said it before and I will say it again running high end piledrivers in low end boards will result in problems. Neither of those boards have particularly great power circuitry.

None of the machines are overclocked and I'm not sure of the voltage that they are pulling. I'm not in the same office as the machines at the moment so I can't check the numbers just yet.

All of the machines used have been running at 100% CPU almost 24/7 since they were installed. So I'm guessing that combined with the piledriver issue is the cause for all this.
 
wouldn't a higher wattage psu fix this? maybe 750w?

seems its too much for lower wattage psu cables to handle?

I'm not sure. I wouldn't have thought that these PCs would need higher than 500W power supplies, none of them are running a GFX card and they only have one hard drive installed.
 
I don't know either:confused:

do those board have a 4 pin or 8 pin cpu power plug?

does seem strange but they are running 100% load 24/7?

maybe a few hours/minutes rest/cooldown time would help?
