Bus service / Route planner?

Been a few times this week i or a friend has wanted to get somewhere on a bus, but without trawling through bus stops nearby to us how can i find out which services go where? Is there a route planner for bus routes? I've found bus service sites, but they are either operator specific and not all operators cover all areas, or they already require you to know what number bus you will be getting

confused: how would that help!?).

If anyone has any handy little websites that would be great!

I've actually just found that travel line, seems to work quite well actually, feel silly for asking now

Car works best for me too on most occasions, but few of my friends don't drive, and i'm not driving them everywhere!

I hope its better than the Transport for London route planner. Last time I used that I ended up getting a black cab because I was no where near where I want to go

That site is pathetic - and yet they expect people to use public transport?!

It is for Liverpool, I had a quick bash at that yesterday but i gave up quickly, just didn't like the site
