i cant be the only person who finds these incredibly annoying? they must contribute a lot to traffic problems

it took me twice as long as typical to get along a road this morning because a bus was stopping at these stops all the way along it with no way for me to get past, there was a big queue forming up behind said bus.

Nope, your not alone!

Theres a road in Plymouth (Alexandra Road for anyone who knows it) that has lots of these stops, and they have recently put crossings in allong this road too, menaing little islands in the middle of the road. In a couple of places the island is almost right next to the bus stop, so when the bus is stopped you cant go round them as you would have to go round the island too!

sounds like Brighton :(

tons of busses everywhere holding everyone up :( - I heard that they stopped making recessed bus stops because drivers were complaining that no one let them out.

Brighton has lost it's marbles when it comes to "green eco travel"

I live on the Drive in Hove, which is a huge road. Parking each side with double parking in the center, and 2 lanes or traffic each way. Towards the coast it changes into Grand Avenue.

The council in their wisdom have changed it to one lane and added cycle routes each side - for the 4 cyclists who use it daily!

This has made the road into one lane, and to top it off - Bus stops have been added which now hold up traffic on Hove's main route!

Then we have the stupid Brighton to Newhaven bus route going in too. All the buses I see on that route are empty!

I depsair when it comes to Government thinking...

ah yes, someone else to moan about Brighton with! :D

what is the Brighton to newhaven bus route? Are the making a bus lane or turning 1 lane of the 50 DC into a bus lane or what?

have you noticed that the only way to avoid hitting every single traffic light along the coast is to do about 45mph :(

almost all bus stops around here fit that description and no they are not that annoying, but this is on small roads. There is one on a main road around here though where there used to be a bus stop layby that has now been converted to car parking and the bus stop but in the middle of the road right before a roundabout, that is quite annoying.

Most pavements can't physically accommodate a bus stop being set into them. What do you expect them to do?

Get the peasant transporters off the road. Can't afford a car? Get the train. ;) :D

*Note: this post is made in a tongue-in-cheek manner and does not reflect any opinion -hypothetical or otherwise - of the poster.

On a slightly more serious note, bus stops like this are a bit frustrating, especially where they are spaces 100m apart on single-lane carriageways. But hey - we just pay our taxes and get shafted in return. Everybody's a winner.

Try driving to Saltdean from Brighton. It took me an hour to move 400 yards on Saturday!!!!

thats where I live...

Just as I moan about the bike lanes, just now I have had the council round to ask me what I think about it. I kid you not. The wierd thing is they asked if I was religious? Whisky Tango Foxtrot has that got to do with bikes!!?

Cool, I am hopefully moving there is a few weeks, whats broadband like there? :-)

I always assumed this was done specifically to 'encourage' drivers to use the buses. Councils would inconvenience the motorist by blocking up the road, and so make them consider alternative travel methods. Especially during rush hour.
