Hi,

I'd be grateful if someone could suggest some plants/bushes to use in the boarders of my garden. I don't have any knowledge on the area but would like things that are:

Relatively low maintenance
Colorful
Flower
Bushy
Around 2-3m tall

(I appreciate ticking all these boxes might not be possible!)

Ideally I'd like to really fill the boarders out however they are only around 600-800mm deep on average with some larger areas around the corner areas.

The garden faces east so there is initially some shade on the righthand side until later in the year where it is mostly full sun until late afternoon.

Quick plan below. There is a rambling rose bush in the planter on the patio along with bulbs running along a bed behind the retaining wall. Two ash trees in the middle corners and one smaller tree on the far right. My neighbours garden follows a similar layout to mine so their garage is what casts shadow into my garden.

Thanks in advance,

BennyC

Edit: should add I have clay soil but have mixed in lots of manure before mulching. I do have topsoil to mix it too.

Get some fragrance up near the deck

Lavender
Russian sage
Honey suckle

Get some herbs up there as well

Bay
Rosemary

Then test the soil first and see what will flourish, be a shame to spend time and effort and watch plants struggle because they are in the wrong soil.

I tend to replace them every two to three years but at least they survive the extreme weather we have in the uk and flower for 6 months each year

Plus the bee's go mad for them.

Just ordered those, don't usually have any luck with Lavender just ends up going woody and 'orrible

This is what I imagine

This is what I end up with

They need trimmed once a year to stop them going woody. I used to do my Gran's ones. I don't know if all work the same but it was just cut the whole thing back too about 20cm and they regrow all fresh. I just did a quick search and it seems you do it at the end of August.

If you want lavenders Thompson and Morgan have a deal on for gardeners world members which give you 48 plants for £5.60
Just use the following link

They are just small plants but should grow quickly.

Small
Small

If I said they where slightly bigger than a brown rawl plug each I'd be flattering them.

Looks like I've got some potting on to do
