"Business" ADSL

Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU
That's UK Online mate - Sky bought Easynet and Easynet own UK Online. That's exactly what my exchange says and I got UKO no problems at all

Maybe ring back and ask someone different? LOL

well we'll give entanet a try and see how it goes. I've just done my own calcs of our thoughput and its closer to 30Gb/Month but lots (LOTS) is up rather than down so the extra upstream should help

Since the takeover, Nildram and Pipex have been getting more similar, and Tiscali owns Pipex, so you can see where that's going to go.

The difference between Max and Max Premium is an upstream of up to 832kbps instead of 448kbps.

Contention ratios disappeared from ADSL years ago - Max Premium gets priority over ordinary Max, but you're unlikely to ever see anything like 1/30 the headline speed...

I wasn't going to recommend Nildram to the OP.
Although I have been using them for 4 years and have been extremely happy with the service I know that if I'd recommended them I'd have had half a dozen people saying don't bother - so it is easier not to recommend.

After I'd posted I noticed my upload was 832kbps - hadn't realised it was double.

Wasn't aware about the contention ratio removals - learn something new.

 you'll get that for any ISP.

So long as you don't tie yourself to a long contract, they're not too awkward about giving MAC keys or you rely on ISP email/webspace...

Well to be honest I have recently tied myself into a new 12 month contract with them - so I could regrade from my original "standard" connection to my new Business one which appears better in every way and is £5 per month cheaper.
But as I said - I've been happy so getting tied into a new 12 month was no big issue.

I don't rely on them for email and/or web hosting - do all that through my own domains with a hosting company.

If you're looking at paying £50 a month then you might want to look into "Sharedband" I have heard good things about it, but never spoke to someone with first hand experience, so might be worth looking at.

Form my understanding Sharedband can combine up to 4 Broadband connections using a specially adapted router. If one line goes down you have the other 1, 2 or 3.

I am on Pipex ADSL and it's pretty solid (apart from a dodgy wiring issue that needs fixing). But I have read some bad, bad things about the Pipex Business connections, they cannot even guarantee speeds of 512k, unless there is some sort of "first month opt-out" it might be worth looking at.

saw some stuff on sharedband, looks interesting but it's only available though a few supplyers (2) and costs quite a bit ontop of the ADSL package (their not cheap either) so adding another 15 (per line so 30 for 2!) plus the hardware (its a dual WAN cisco router) makes it quite expencive and I'd guess I don't REALLY need to bond the lines, could just have a load balancing router for about 100-150 so over a year its saved me money NOT going with them!

Ukonline via Easynet (they belong to Rupert Murdock) are excellent with an up of 700+ and up to around 16000 download. Excellent customer care. and an excellent price - checck it out!!
Customer service has nothing to do with SKy they are run entirely separately just using their owners backbone provider Easynet.
Perhaps o2 will open up your exchange soon?

I've no issues with it. It's UK based, available 24/7, and as a rule they know what they're talking about. I do find it more convenient to email tier 3 (top level netadmins) but phone support is fine too.

hmm, anyone got anything to say for entanet over Ukonline? I'd like the fastest connection I can get for the least money tbh!

better to post in an existing thread and all that
new Q
