Business Information Technology

I did a degree in BIT at Bournemouth. I thought there was far too much programming and didn't enjoy it. I failed both of my programming assignments as well as an accountancy exam by Christmas. I got bored of the course and decided I wanted out. They told me the course would get better in the second year (twice as much programming  ) and to see it out. I failed four more exams and got kicked off the course. I then went on to do a Business Communication Systems degree and loved it.

We definitely covered VB but there was another language that escapes me. I didn't like programming and had no wish to learn it but I would've put up with it if it wasn't for the rest of the course. I thought it was far too business orientated. I wanted to learn about networking, databases and web design but was actually taught things like marketing, accountancy, law and programming. We did cover the basics of database design but nothing really hands on.

Just because I didn't like it doesn't mean to say you won't. I think I was one of only two people, out of 100+, that dropped out.

Il see how it goes, and if its gay after the first 2 weeks I'l jack it in and try and get on another Course.

I doubt my BIT will be the same/near your Course criteria, your required UCAS points were 180 - 260odd
Mine is like 80 - 160max

You sould be able to make a pretty good judgement within the first week during your induction. They'll probably give you a course handbook and explain what is expected of you during the year. If you have any concerns it's far better to get them out in the open, at the beginning, rather than waste a year like me. Goodluck :)

Has anyone ever done Business Information Technology at University level?

If so, was it enjoyable and worth studying?

Is there any Programming involved?
If so, was it difficult or just the basics?

Thanks, Steve

I've got a BSc (Hons) Business Information Systems and a HNC in Business Information Technology.

There was some programming in both courses... nothing too hectic though.

Drop me a line if you need any further info.

Thanks FunkyT :)

What Programming Languages were used?

Thank You

I've done the following:

Pascal, Visual Basic, JavaScript and Prolog... can't see me ever using them tbh.

Also covered Oracle SQL - not sure if you class that as a programming language.

Did you do all of these in BIT mate?
If not, which ones were done?
And were the basics of these Programming Languages just taught or were they taught to the max?

Thanks Bud

Neither of the courses I did involved hardcore programming... people who were business/management orientated didn't enjoy the coding but managed to get through...
