So, me and a friend are looking to go into business. We both work in the IT industry and feel we could work for ourselves rather than others.
We're in the process of unifying website, social media pages and the like and we need a company logo.
At this point I'm not going to mention the business name - so I'll use the name Acme for this post. (Real name is also 4 characters in length)
I have a tame "Photoshop et al" person, he really is good, but I need to feed him ideas before he can come up with logo's etc.

So, business name is a one word like "Acme". We have initially been using "Acme Computers" however we don't build/supply computers. We are repairing hardware/software issues on-site - both home users with good old Windows issues to businesses with Sever problems. We also consult, so offering advice on hardware setup's, WIFI, upgrades etc.
So not sure if to be:

Acme
Acme Computers
Acme IT
Acme.com

Then when it comes to the logo. We both like contemporary, simple, professional but not necessarily corporate.
Not sure if to just base the logo purely around the business name (as said above - 4 character business name) or to include somethin IT related. One initial concept involved a key from a keyboard with the business name on it for example.
Then if to have the word "IT" or "Computers" as part of the logo. Or to have that word positioned directly under the logo.

Anyway, a call to all the creative types. Looking for some logo ideas. Description or MS Paint level mock-up's would be appreciated as our tame designer should be able to turn them into something we can use :)

Big ask I understand. Thanks for your help.

You realise you can hire someone to do this right and it won't cost a bomb?

There are some absolute whizzes on adobe illustrator who could whip something really good up.

You can't really do this without the actual company name. The length and letters in the word affect the design. What works with "acme" won't necessarily work with what your business is actually called.

Why pay for something that a bunch of strangers on the internet can do for free? OP why the secrecy around the company name?

Are you setting up a limited company? Have you got a shareholders agreement in place yet? I wouldn't bother going into a business with anyone until that is done properly first.

Acme
Acme Computers
Acme IT
Acme.com

have you actually got a 4 character .com domain? Or are you putting in options that aren't realistic there?

If you have then I'd be tempted to just stick with your 4 character name

don't see an issue with adding 'computers' or 'IT' or 'tech' or 'support' or whatever else after it otherwise

Given the lack of useful input from the OP re: his current company name, I'm going to suggest he creates a new company based in italy called Software Help, or SH for short.

Then make sure he gets the correct domain, to make sure everyone knows it's the correct domain, i suggest something along the lines of "thisisSH"... and I don't remember what the TLD is for Italy?

that has the word isis in it, not very SEO friendly :P

Just call the company "iFriend"

As in Friend and I.

It fits the modern times of putting "i" infront of stuff.
