Business website designs: flash or basic?

There's nothing worse than a full flash website. I don't care how good it looks, I just want to click away from it.

When I was younger I was wowed by flash and used to create full site templates in it. All I've used it for now a days is embedding videos and a couple of interactive business cards for uni.

I'm all for a snazzier web, but the 'platform-within-a-platform' approach isn't the way to do it, yeah.

Anyway, I think we've successfully managed to persuade 'im :)

I hate flash websites, my pda can't display them and they take much longer to load than standard websites, if your using 3G then the problem is 10x worse.

Then of course there's javascript, I and many others use noscript to stop malicious or nuisance scripts/applets so a flash website ends up being totally blocked because of the js requirement which results in you then randomly allowing scripts from about a million different servers to see one video.

Not forgetting sound effects/music of course, so many flash websites use pointless sound effects when you hover over a button, it does my head in, you sometimes end up with a 120db blast of music or sfx when attemping to click a button, videos that start playing automatically are a major annoyance as well.
