I am not a fan of buses for a number of reasons. Mainly because I am borderline claustrophobic and I don't like things I can't get out of when I want to. Of course, back in the days when common sense prevailed you could more or less hop on and off at will. Not so anymore. A few months ago I was on a very crowded bus in Swindon that was stuck in a jam on the way into the bus station where I was to get off. We were crammed in cheek by Jowel and I suddenly started feeling very nauseous and my head started spinning. I really wanted off. Would the driver let me off? No. Health and Safety, more than my job's worth guvnor etc. so I smashed the emergency glass panel and hit the emergency door release switch, leapt off and legged it without looking back. I was lucky not to have been caught but I avoided using the bus after that.

Anyhow, the real rant about buses was brought on because it took me 45 minutes to get into Shirley last night. I was only coming from Behind the Walls. The reason? You guessed it - buses. Stopping every 20 yards to discorge their passengers and holding us all up while the innumerate driver struggled to take his fares.

And I thought to myself why not bring back conductors? And why not bring back the buses with open decks so that you can hop off and on at will? Wouldn't it help to get the traffic moving?

so you don't like riding on buses because they don't stop frequently enough, and you don't like driving behind buses because they're constantly stopping to let people off?

seems like there's a failure in logic here.

I think you’ll find op this is 2019 not 1919, conductors and hop on & off busses are a thing of the past - because one isn’t required and the latter is proven to be dangerous in this admittedly over H&S conscious world we live in.

Generally busses are not the cause of traffic congestion, they actually alleviate it considerably, or do you think the passengers will all walk instead of using cars if the busses weren’t there?

I’d get some therapy for the claustrophobia , moving out of Swindon would help, it’s a crap place to drive in.

Trying sitting you class C or PVC and you'll have a different appreciation.
And this as well. :p

45 minutes to get into Shirley?
That’s not bad at all, it took me almost a fortnight just to get her to hold hands with me.
On a more serious note, I recognised Swindon, I know that’s in Wiltshire, and there’s a Shirley in Croydon, and one in Hampshire I think, but Behind the Walls? Gimme a break, where’s that, on the moon?

Behind The Walls (or Back of the Walls) is in the same place as Shirley, namely Southampton. My current clientco is located Behind The Walls and I'm commuting in every day from my woodland loggia near Brockenhurst. If you really wanted the detail...

None of this happened.
