Busybodies...

To be honest, I'm happy you got caught. And it gives me a little bit more faith in the state of the UK, that people still do the right thing and report illegal circumstances. We have too many chavs and ****heads etc... getting away with petty crimes that makes the lives of decent people a misery. Not even taking into account the amount it must cost us tax payers.

Why you posted such rubbish looking for support is beyond me! You made a mistake and broke the law, someone had the common sense and decency to report you, and you got done. Take it like a man...

Perhaps thats asking too much, as your going to stuff 4500 coins in their gob, and then push them in the canal... You da man!

Law abiding citizens, busybodies... Its these people that keep an eye on things and do there job. Perhaps one day you'll be mature enough to understand that.

Must go and twitch my curtains now :D

What an absolute **** hole you sound, its hardly crime of the century.

You say that there is too many chavs and **** heads getting away with petty crimes, - I think you need to choose your words a little more carefully mate.

At the end of the day it sounds like the fine did not influence the OP in any way towards paying the actual tax. He paid the tax of his own accord, the DVLA have records of who has and who hasnt paid their tax and should realise that it was just a mistake (seeing as he paid the fine 1wk or so after being reported) what good is fining someone do except make them feel bitter.

I bet if the boot was on the other foot you'd be having a few words to say as well. And dont come back and say you would never forget to pay your tax in the first place, because no one is perfect.

Sucks that you got a fine but lets face it, it was your mistake... and if you're "the kind of spaz" who can't understand a basic English sentence telling you when your tax is due for renewal, then it's not really anyone elses fault. Do you realise thousands of people all over the UK probably write to them saying "it was an honest mistake" just to get out of a fine? Pay out and put it down to experience.

Jam pie

My god your right! We should just let things slide by and see what happens to society, As I'm sure that, the person who reported the offense just thought....Nah thats not a crime, we'll not do owt.

I for one dont care how I look to other people, but will report anything I see as being dodgy. It aint my place to decide whats right and wrong and what punishment, thats the legal systems job.

And yes I've been caught by the cops for various traffic offences in the past, but fair do's to them for doing their job...The only person I bitched about was myself for being stupid! Not about the people upholding/enforcing the law!

My old Staff Sargent once said to me "If you've got nothing nice to say then shut the *** up" I think this applies in certain peoples cases here hmmm?

Can they prove the offence took place? I could very well go around looking for cars on driveways without tax discs and report them to the police saying they were on the road.

Anyway, gutted for you. Maybe you could appeal by writing to the DVLA? They do actually have a heart as I managed to get the fee refunded for reregistering my car that I was charged when I went to tax it and only had a V5.

Yeah man! I've always wanted some extra experiance in paying fines for the future... this experiance will get me places in life.

It may teach you how to read basic english, or at least to pay attention to what you're reading. That may come in useful for you sometime. ;)

You get a reminder through the door detailing exactly what forms you need to take and what the deadline is, in LARGE TEXT, so it's your own fault really.

And yes, no tax can often imply an unroadworthy car, since you need insurance and MOT to get taxed.

The dude made a mistake, he paid for it. Chill out. Stop bickering its over with.

No, it was over with after he paid it, but he decided he needed a sympathetic ear from the internets! He didn't get what he expected and people have sided against him.

Some people have gone further than others, scum of the earth being a bit harsh, I'd settle for dumbwit since he got a reminder through detailing everything and highlighting the deadline

lol I said words to that effect to begin with, he then responded to that as sarcily as he could, thus got the same response. If he hadn't wanted public opinion he wouldn't have posted it on a public forum. :)

When will people learn, you won't get any sympathy on the OcUK forums in situations like this.

When you're wrong, you're wrong - and you certainly won't forget it when 50 people reinforce the point with varying degrees of poignancy. :D

(who the hell walks around reading tax disks ) who probably hasn't got a job in the day so thought it would be fulfilling to make other people pay tax that pays there dole money

I know there are a lot of problems in this country but im getting a little annoyed how certain people in this forum like to heap a lot of blame on jobless folk. Yes there are scroungers but what about the genuine jobseekers out there? IMHO I wouldnt be expecting some dole scrounger to care one diddly squit whether you car is taxed or not lol... why would they? they are too busy taking it easy, drinking pints of wife beater and getting their next load of drugs.

I believe the person behind the counter of the post office shopped you, plain and simple and now youv'e been stung for it.

lol, I wasn't posting for sympathy!

Having sympathy doesn't exactly make things better for me, i'm 45 out of pocket no sympathy is going to bring that back! Why do people also imply that posters want sympathy when they make rant threads? I was only after a response, and in light of the responses it seems majority of people disagree with me which ultimatly means i'm in the wrong. We live in a democracy do I accept that, doesn't mean my opinion is going to change though, I feel someone within the DVLA could use discretion in these cases.
