Butter or Margarine / Spread

I am a total and utter butter fiend. Generally my lifestyle is relatively healthy, but not when it comes to butter. My favourite is Tesco's Finest Salted Normandy Butter it makes Lurpak taste like margarine.

Butter is a healthy food, the fats are protective, I thought people were a bit more aware nowadays, it's pretty much common knowledge now that the cholesterol hypothesis is totally false.

Does unsalted butter have some property that salted doesn't?

From my most recent experience... it won't give your muffins a salty veneer if you grease the tin with it. :) Unfortunately I only had salted butter at the time. :( Curse my salty muffins. :D

I haven't used margarine in years, and can't understand why people put butter OR margarine in sandwiches (we've discussed it here before I think). I bet most people wouldn't even realise if it was omitted. I have a block of butter in the fridge which I use for cooking, and melting onto hot bread products. That's it.

Butter is also a good source of butyric acid; its the integrity of the food group - how clean it is rather than the title 'butter', 'red meat'...oh no! I also agree with those that think that the excess cholesterol focus should finally be put to rest. Take more notice of your homocysteine levels.

I was brought up on Marg, would only get butter on special occasions or when I visited my Gran. Now that I live with my girlfriend, I buy lurpak for myself, honestly cannot stand the taste of margarine anymore. Childhood has scarred me!
