Buy more booze

Give away a free bottle of Frosty Jack with every bag of Kettle Chips/ tube of Pringles?

Reduce the legal drinking age to 14? I had some great drunken nights out at that age, and don't see why other kids should suffer.

Awaiting a comment from {insert forum member of your choice} suggesting it is because adherants of that religion don't drink.
Is it true that in Scotland due to the minimum alcohol pricing that a 3l bottle of FJs is about a tenner?

What we need is a cost of living crisis where people get anxious and depressed about the rising cost of bills and their finances. The only way they can relieve their depression is by drinking and smoking, so they buy more cigarettes and alcohol instead of food. Tax income would skyrocket.

Currently it’s much cheaper to drink at home (buying at supermarket) than it is to drink in a pub. I’ve always thought it would be better the other way round. If they reduced tax on alcohol in the pub. People have to leave at certain times, good for local communities etc etc.

All Japan needs to do is force the office workers to go back to work in the office and back to the tradition of being obliged to go and drink alcohol with your boss after work.

But if the population has willingly given up 20% of its alcohol consumption then it's disgusting that you'd want to push an official scheme to get them back on it again.

Reducing tax on alcohol sold in a pub would still leave them significantly more expensive than a supermarket though the sums may be a bit different in Scotland and Wales.

A bottle of Beefeater gin costs £16.50 in the supermarket, in Wetherspoons it costs around £60 at their cheaper doubles pricing. A pint of Heineken is £1.25 in the supermarket, £2.99 in Wetherspoons.

The Japanese government just need to provide me with a visa, home to live in, I'm thinking somewhere semi rural, traditional, quiet.

I'll get that national figure up to 100% by myself.

Some very sensible points in this thread but this is GD and OP asked what would you do to increase consumption in the UK.

Free taxis after dark, 24hr licensing, more kebab shops, early finish during the summer months and start work later on a Monday (have we looked into moving the UK to somewhere warmer for improved year round summer?). These are the kinds of realistic ideas we need. Oh and mandatory fry ups for everyone - maybe with some kind of ice cream van / drone delivery system to get them to you when you can't get out of bed :p

Actually, the price of booze has remained constant. Things like milk. For ages, it was £1.15 for 4 pints, now its £1.45 - a 26% increase. Haven't seen booze increase by 26% in that time.

I was actually thinking about that recently.

I've been drinking bourbon whiskey for about 5 years and not really seen any increase on price in that time.

To give an example the cheapest I've ever seen Bulleit is £18 on offer, and can be had today for £20.

Most of my colleagues, including myself have increased our drinking due to the rude customers and being short staffed. Colleagues leave without being replaced. Plus one useless colleague has been off for 6 months 'due to stress caused by staff shortages'. Pot kettle black. None of us want her back as not at team player, makes mistakes all the time, turns up to work 15 mins late (never makes up the time). Just sack her so we can recruit again. She has worked for the company for 33-34 years and only started to act like this since late 2019.
