Buying a Blackberry - What I need to know?

If your press your BB button ie the button with the 4 dots...it will take u into the menu system...the top 4/5 icons are the ones that sit in your homescreen.

Also click on messages,..then click your BB button, scroll down to options...in there click on general options and scroll down to SMS/EMAIL inboxes...in there you can set them to separate, combined or theme controlled.

Also any themes and wallpapers you might want...head over to the link in my sig where they have a huge forum for everything BB including apps, themes and wallpapers...some are free and some arent.

Have fun :)

Got it thanks, still getting the hang of things after having an iPhone for a few years, love this BB already! And hear today the iPhones coming to Orange anyway!.
Registered email account now so getting Push Email how its supposed to be, having probs with Facebook but i hope thats just the signal, now for some apps..........

When they say you get some txt messages and delete them for registration. I've received 3 sms. I've also received some sort of txt from blackberry registration saying you handset has been registered on the wireless network do I need to delete that too before i restart the handset?

Facebook is a bit hit and miss...i hardly use it tbh...only now and again but then i dont use Facebook all that much ie on my laptop as well.

Seems to be all set up now thanks Spawn.

Another thing though. Does the backlight automatically adjust to the lighting? My back light seems to have been getting dimmer as the night draws in.

Also, using the internet, there is orange wap and blackberry bookmark in my bookmarks tab. Are these just portals or something like that? Is it worth getting opera mini for the blackberry?

Also, I forgot to transfer my old numbers off my phone, would it be ok to put the new sim in my old nokia 8310 and retrieve the numbers? It won't mess the sim up or anything will it?

Yep the backlight automatically adjusts to the conditions ie when its dark it lights up and in sunlight or lots of light it wont light up ie the keypad etc.

Yes those are portals as far as i know.

As for the synch issue??..i suppose you could put the new sim into the other phone...it shouldnt mess anything up as far as i know but im not 100% sure on that. Even if it does you can just get Orange to send you the info again...or just log into their BIS portal...its http://www.blackberry.orange.co.uk/

Make a new account, login and from there you can send the service books to your device...youy can also set up your email addresses there and set up filters....although you could do it through your device in the email setup.

Hi. I'm thinking of updating my 8900 OS. I've read that the OS i'm on has a security flaw and also I'm having issues with wifi. I've read that updating the OS will cure this.

What I'm wondering is do you have to have your phone re-registered again with that text malarkey like when you first get your phone or does the OS update not affect this?

Thanks.

Yes everytime you do an OS upgrade you need to re-register your device but that happens automatically...well it happens everytime i do my Bold and ive done a lot of OS upgrades to my Bold.

Once you have installed the new OS and the phone has rebooted...it will re-register with your network automatically and you should get the texts saying the device is registered etc.

How do you update the OS on the Curve?

Go to the link in my sig...register...have a look in the forums mainly the blackberry tips and how to part of the forums...in there they will have all the info that you need to update your OS and also backup your data:).

Latest OS for the curve range can be found in the forums too...under the curve section.

Really thinking about getting a Bold or Curve 8900 if the prices drop when the 9700 is released (it's probably gonna be a little too expensive for me). I've tried the 8520 trackpad though and love it. Are the trackballs really as bad as read about? i.e - having to send the phone in for repair every 5 odd months?

Some can be quite bad but thats due to wear and tear...sometimes they are faulty from the word go but very rarely does that happen...ive had mine since last Dec, bold that is and on the odd occasion my trackball plays up but as i said if you give it a wipe then that usually sorts it out...sometimes mine gets stuck and all i do is wipe it against my shirt or top and its good as gold.

But honestly some people just exaggerate the issue...its not really that bad and anyhow the trackball is more or less finished now...the new BB's coming out are all going to have the trackpad.

I was having the same thoughts too before I bought the 8900 but to be honest I don't mind it now. As long as you keep your hands fairly clean I can't see the trackball being an issue. I think its people going to mcdonalds and easting fries then using the trackball that have issues.

Sorry been away with the Girlfriend and without internet connection.
Sorry to dissapoint but my Curve has gone back to Orange, the reception at hers was non-existant and after lengthly talks with both instore and over the phone I still cant get a signal which renders the contract useless as I need to stay in touch with work 24/7.
Cancelled my contract and gone to O2 okay I have defected by getting the 3Gs iPhone but im a sucker as I already had the 3G and stuck in my ways, for the time I did have signal I found the Curve absolutly excellent and the non-3G wasnt really much of a problem. Seemed fine on EDGE to me. Push email was brill but not really needed that much for me, all in all i would definatly have one and recommend it.
I guess im a bit of an Apple freak and love the iPhone to bits.

Good luck with yours though!.
Cheers.

Mike did you have any Orange branding on your curve? I took mine into work and showed someone with a curve on Tmobile and he said 'where is the branding?!'. I didn't notice it up until then but it has no Orange branding on the casing at all.
