On my saloon I leave the internal cover open it all the time as it makes a big difference as to how light the cabin is. I assume its even more noticeable on the touring (assuming it has the same cover inside?)
I never open the actual sunroof because I want to, only because my BMW tech told me to do it semi regularly because the mechanism can get stuck otherwise.
