Buying a GPU now for Xmas Build, 7900xt?

I've been getting advice from various helpful types on here and now have my entire build ready to go, apart from the GPU. This is a gaming build, 1440p, 165hz, 99% COD BO6. CPU is an MM sourced 7800X3D, going into an NR200 Max V2,(so should be able to take a 330mm triple slot card), 850w PSU. Budget is £600 maximum. Looking around it seems the best bet is a 7900xt? I realise the new stuff's around the corner but I'm guessing it'll be 2/3 months for the crazy pricing and availability to settle down so I'm not getting too worried about buying now. Any suggestions?

I'm in almost exactly the same boat but with potential announcements imminent it seems like a treacherous time to buy. My UW monitor tops out at 100hz so I'm looking at 7900 GREs but even then there's doubts about whether I'm spending an extra £70 over a 7800xt for gains I'm never going to realise.

I don't know how BO6 performs but I'd suggest checking benchmarks to make sure you're not paying for an extra 50fps that your monitor won't show you.

From the TechSpot (HWU) 4070Ti Super review (the latest with a good variety of GPUs compared):

At 1440p the 7900XT is slightly better than a 4070Ti Super in rasterisation and the same as an original 4070 (slightly slower than a 4070 Super) in Ray-tracing.

If you can get it on sale for a price that goes accordingly and are happy not having DLSS's slightly better image quality then go for it. Personally I would wait until January 2025 as once the new Intel, Radeon and Nvidia cards are announced, prices should tumble on the remaining current gen cards, since a next gen lower tier should equal or beat the similarly priced card that is currently available.

Bagged a Hellhound 7900xt not long ago - very pleased with it. Was on offer for £620 and came with 2 games, so bit of a no brainer .
At current prices I would probably go for the Sapphire Pulse. - although , as you say , a Black Friday bargain might come up :)

Ended up going for the Gigabyte, I was a bit concerned that the larger ones wouldn't fit very well in the case, seems to review ok.

Heard of a few problems with Gigabyte with some of the connections flexing and damaging boards apparently. If the reviews are holding up though, then as with most things maybe there a couple of dodgy ones, or just some bad luck at play!

Put the build together Friday night, used an NR200 Max V2 so very straightforward and started first time (#smugface). Been playing some BO6 and I'm very happy with the performance it's putting out but it's a bit too loud for my liking, I've run the 3d Mark Stress Test "Nomad" (or whatever it's called) for 20 loops and the hottest the GPU got was 59°, Cinebench seemed similar with CPU temp maxing out at 73°. What's the best way to quieten the GPU down, a quick browse seems to think Adrenalin, is this just a matter of setting a fan curve? I've set the preset to quiet but hasn't done anything as far as I can see.

Would agree that undervolting is a good idea - dropped my mv to 1050 in Adrenalin - no issues (as yet anyway). Would probably drop a little further but I am happy with what I have.

Bad time with the 8800XT around the corner... could be the card to have... maybe ;)

Seems like I was having a senior moment, I think most of the racket is coming off the AIO. Swapped the fans from the stock sickle flows to Arctic P12 max and have been playing with fan curves etc, still can't get it quiet enough for my liking though. I have put an undervolt on the GPU and it doesn't seem to have done anything negative so I'll leave it for now.

A few questions:

- What temperature is the CPU getting to under a heavy combined load (i.e. stress CPU and GPU at the same time)?
- Do you have the windowed or mesh sided version of the case?
- is the AIO noise definitely the fans, or could it be the pump?

Given that you've undervolted the GPU, I'd expect the power draw to be comparitively low, but have you monitored this at all? (My 7900XT, completely stock, has occasionally hit 500W gaming, but usually hovers around 300-320W!)
