Hi

I've been deliberating for many weeks over what PC I want to buy.

A few days ago I thought I had found my ideal system at Mesh Computers, I customised it a little and these were the specifications:

Cooler Master Elite 430 All Black ATX Case

550W HEC Desktop Power Supply

ASUS P8Z68-V LX, USB 3.0, SATA 6GB/s, Quad-GPU CrossFireX™

Intel® 2nd Generation Core™ i5-2500K Processor (6M Cache, 3.30 GHz)

16GB 1600MHz DDR3 Memory (4x4GB)

1024MB NVIDIA Geforce GTX550 Ti Graphics Accelerator

1TB SATA III 6GB/s - 7200rpm Hard Drive

22x SATA Dual Layer DVD-Rewritable Super Format ±R/±RW/RAM

The total price with VAT is £732.01

However, I decided to research Mesh and I found a LOT of extremely bad customer reviews online and I was instantly put off by the £45-£50 delivery charge so decided to look elsewhere and as a result I am more confused than ever.

My budget it is at an absolute maximum of £730.

However I would like to go lower if possible, in fact I definitely want to go lower as anything over £700 and I will be scraping the barrel financially.

Now at the moment I have a four year old 32 Bit Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2160 @1.80GHz with 2GB of RAM which runs Photoshop OK but as soon as any other program is opened the whole system slows to a crawl, the other programs are borderline unusable.

What I want to be able to run is 3DS Max, Maya, ZBrush, Unreal Editor, Adobe Photoshop and various other 3D design packages and game engines.

Now after doing a little bit of research I found that 16GB of RAM may be a little overkill for what I want, I'm not really interested in gaming but obviously the programs I'm using are for game development so I may need to "test" them but I'm not too interested in hardcore gaming.

So, would 8GB of RAM be OK?

I'll be honest, I use computers all the time but I am lost when it comes to buying them, all I look for is the RAM and the graphics card and even then don't know that much about them.

I basically want a system that will run the programs listed above with ease, as well as any other similar programs if I choose to download them.

I've heard people say "buy more RAM" to make your computer future proof but then I've heard people respond to that with "that's a load of crap, why would you need that amount of memory".

I do not want to go about building the system myself so that option is out, I just want to buy something that will blow my current system out of the water and run the programs smoothly.

If any of you could give me some tips with regards to what to prioritise in terms of my purchase, what is essential and what is less so and any links or direction to anything online I would really appreciate it.

Feel free to pick apart the specs I listed above as it will help me a great deal.

Thank you in advance :)
