my hard disks just died :( and from what ive read Im thinking of going for the: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB ST3500630AS SATA-II 16MB Cache
rather than the WD 500Gb and maybe slap it in a OcUK Silentmaxx Aluminium Hard Drive Enclosure. Is the seagate one of the best in the £180 price range?
also
Is there any advantage of getting 2 x 250Gb disks over just the one 500Gb?

Thanks

A single 500GB will cost more than two 250GB (£170 v £130) Also if you plan to use one for OS and other for gaming it'll be faster (you could store music/my documents on the boot drive)

But if it's for a htpc you'll want to limit the number of drives (noise/heat) so a 500GB makes sense, if you don't mind paying the extra for it. The 320GB's are the best value for money though, only £10 more for 70GB. Quite a big jump for the 400, 500 and 750GB models, and the last offers lowest value for money (highest cost per GB)

In fact it's better value for money buying two 320GB than it is a single 500GB, and you get 130GB more storage for less money!

ah right i see, thanks for that. Are the Hard Drive Enclosures any good, think I might go for two hard disks instead now. Do these things dramatically cut the amount of noise?
