Hi All,

Firstly happy new year :) - Hope you have a safe and wonderful night!

Apologies if I am in the incorrect area to be asking this kind of question but I need a little help deciding on what new TV to get and the last 2 TV's i've bough have been disappointing lol. The first TV had a poor/buggy graphical interface and second one was just a rubbish design (eventually fell over and broke) lol we rent so sadly i cant mount it on the wall.

I have a budget of £400, we are looking to get 43inch but can stretch to 50inch - any suggestion would be appreciated not much of a TV Guru myself haha.

Thank you,

Kindest regards
James

Stretch to the biggest size you can fit in the room at a reasonable price and set your expectations with such a low budget. £400 doesn't buy you much of a TV at all that is of any quality. OLED or at least a proper QLED should be bare minimum for anyone purchasing a TV who actually enjoys sitting down for some immersion.

TV / movies or gaming?

For TV/movies get oled.

TV & Movies :) OLED, that a bit pricey dont think id be able to afford that within our budget haha.

50" will be the biggest we can fit in out tiny living room haha - If I had too stretch the budget it would be to £500 but at the moment I cannot justify paying more sadly as much as I'd like to... :( I just dont want to spend £400 on a pile of junk.

Would highly recommend looking for a second hand TV really - get familiar with the model codes so you can spot the year, then look for 2019 or 2020 models.

IMO Panasonic and and LG have some of the faster UIs which is a real thing for me. Get frustrated with laggy or flaky software.

LG Nanocell are lovely and very well featured TVs. Haven't been up close with Pana on the last couple of years. Hisense are a good follower too.

You can pick a 43" Samsung Q65A Qled up for £399 if you have access to works perk account or blue light card or reward gateway etc.

Would be a great buy for you.

Whatever make and size that you get is ultimately up to you, our 8 or 9 month old latest TV is a 50” Smart Sony.
Our living room is plenty big enough for that size, but I could have lived with a smaller size personally, but the one we got was such a good deal that I couldn’t say no.
My feeling on large screen TVs is that any guy with a 70” or 75” TV seems to also have to have a mandatory two full sleeves of tattoos, and wear a grey track suit every day, including for funerals, while his wife/girlfriend has their daughters names tattooed on each breast, usually Chardonnay and maybe Kortnee.
Anyone who deduces from that that I was born in a Council house, raised in a blue collar family, but by a series of lucky strokes, a bit of conniving, being in the right place at the right time, and no small amount of ducking and diving eventually made a few quid and got out of the wrong side of the tracks, go to the top of the class.

I wouldn't have minded going for the 77" oled bit its way more expensive than 65"

And I don't have any tats nor rent control house.

Also you'll find council houses to be well made. So quit your snobbery.

This. I worked in Electrical Retail 25 years ago, in the days of stone age CRT Tellys that were physically impossible to go bigger than 37" & weighed as much as a washing machine if not more. This guys dad & his mates wanted said telly. That and the most powerful boombox all in one stereo systems that were for sale at the time. They didn't care about how it sounded or how it looked, they just wanted to know the wattage & how loud it would go. You & I know the reasons why no matter how wrong it was. ;)

To the OP: Have a look on Hot UK deals. best places to buy Tellies are John Lewis & Richer Sounds for free 5 or 6 year Guarantees.

,

I didn’t mention rent control, and I’m not arguing that council houses aren’t well made, last time I saw it, the one that I was born in was still there, albeit now converted into two flats.
I feel no shame that I was born and raised in a council house, more like a perverse pride that I was, but I feel pride that I was able to use my loaf and move on.
Snob is a misnomer for me, I’m just a guy who worked hard and now lives in a decent house among good neighbours.
I realised in my early thirties that living among people who could speak of little but darts, football and dog racing didn’t fill me with delight, and I had no desire to spend my days divided between the betting shop and Wetherspoons, or whatever came before Wetherspoons, so I went to graft, put some dough together and kissed it all goodbye.
I’m not better than anyone, I’m equal to everyone.
Because I prefer Savannah to Skegness doesn’t make me superior, it means that Skegness is not my style, but Savannah appeals.

Do you have access to Costco? They usually have some good deals.
No, sadly not.

Hmm, I will keep my eye on LG that what was most fustrating about my last TV which was an impulse buy a Sharp :/ the GUI was so laggy and infact very flaky it would crash at times. I know it not a network issue. I was looking at Samsung :)

Reminds me of a few years ago, when I met a cousin who I hadn't seen for years (and haven't since) on the street, and she introduced me to her daughter, who was called Chanel.

I asked if she was the fifth child in the family, that went down well! :P

Am I safe with my 65 inch......bit on the threshold, or am I doomed to change into the above when I at some point inevitably buy a bigger TV (note, no grey tracksuits or tattoo's here, and two respectable kids).

I dont know if im breaking the rules, I will remove if I am sorry, but I found this the reviews are a bit mish mash, in regards to the sound quality besides that what with the QLED? I assume it technology that been developed by Samsung?

Yeah I have a little one on the way which is why I wanna get bigger but the room itself is small and cannot justify any bigger than 50inch haha!

thank you all for your response!

1 thing that puts me off second hand, lack of warranty :/

Thank you, I honestly have zero clue, I need to do my homework to be honest for example, the room is pretty bright which might be issue with glare and contrast (aka washes out the image) trying not to overthink it but at the same time for me £500 is a lot of money and If it not right I be kicking myself XD

I should get myself to a curries to look at the tv's in action, but at the same time always good to seek help for the pro's :D aka you :)

If room is bright then yes go for a QLED TV.

Might get some price drops over the new few weeks. New models will be announced in CES 2022 in a few days time, which always usually has an effect on current price models.
