So i've just been speaking to sales regarding buying an OC'd system. The Black Ops one.

I asked if it was possible to put another 6Gig ram in but he said no because the overclock requires just 6 gig ram and if you put in more it would have to be reset to stock.

So basically my question is, should, in the future i decide to put more ram in, is it easy enough to basically reset the computer back to its default rather thab overclocked? I'm not too clued up with computers so i'm hoping its an easy enough thing to do.

Cheers

very easy, within the bios you just load the system default settings, make a few tweaks to correct the time and date/boot order.

it will then be running at the stock clocks of the cpu/ram, the OC settings used by OCUK should still be stored in a user profile within the bios so should never be lost unless you delete them, so can easily be reversed again back.

Yeah dead easy. What will you be using the pc for? 6GB of Ram is quite a lot, do you need the 12GB?

Reseting back to stock speed is done through the BIOS when restarting or booting the pc. Most motherboards have various BIOS profiles that can be saved and loaded up.

Ed. doh too slow

It's for 3d applications, though to be fair u think 6 gig should be fine too but just wanted to make sure it was at least possible should I somehow need more ram.

Thanks for the help guys.

My sig in my rig is used for working in Maya and lots of game engines and I dont ever have any issues. I would like the whole process to become faster, but apart from that I have never hit any memory problems.

you wont need more than 6gb of ram

if you cant explain why you need 12gb of memory now, then you definatley dont need it.

stick with the overclock :)

Well its not so much i cant explain why, I mean it helps a lot when youre rendering animations. If you run out of ram the program will just quit in the middle of the render. My current system was 8 gig and never had it run out on me, beforehand when i had 3 gig it used to happen quite often.

But i am inclined to think that 6 should be fine as you suggest so i'll go with that and hopefully it will be fine.

I ordered on Saturday but decided today i'd like to upgrade the ssd, you reckon they will be able to do it for me? I've sent a webnote today asking the question. I'm guessing they wont start to build till Monday but I'm not sure if youre allowed to change orders or not.

One other quick question. I take it the gfx card doesnt affect the overclock? Like if i was to swap out the 460 GTX that comes with it for my current HD5870 would there be any problems?

Thanks again for the help guys.
