My friend from university has parents in Hong Kong which he visits. He says at there local Currys/PCworld equivalent store, an i5 4460 processor is around £110. Will this be compatible with my motherboard which was brought from Amazon which is compatible with the i5 itself being a Asus H81 board with the update bios. Does it make a difference if it's from Hong Kong? Since it will be a boxed Chinese version of the processor will have an additional C in the part number E.G BXC80646I54460 instead of BX80646I54460.

Just pay the extra and get it from the UK. Support UK businesses, pay VAT simples. People moan about immigrants sending money overseas but when you take money away from UK businesses you're doing the same thing.

Does the socket match? If so, enjoy your savings

It should work fine. If it's not declared when going through customs though it's a crime, you're supposed to pay import duty on it, bringing the price up to £132. Still a £23 saving though.

CPUs are not that likely to be faulty anyway, up to you whether to take the risk or not. Is the £30 saving worth it? Could be..

£30 is a decent amount of money however you look at it, but for reassurance the £30 would definitely be worth the guaranteed working and warranty condition :)

If you are going down this route you should absolutely be getting a Xeon. From what I saw while out there last time, nobody uses i series chips because the Xeons can be had for peanuts.

Tripe, UK can compete with importers they're just greedy.

Well that's capitalism. People will go for the best prices and if that means importing, it's completely fair. We get ripped off big time in the UK.

I would just pay the extra and get it in the UK. If your order something from Hong Kong and something goes wrong it can be very difficult to get rectified.
