Looking to purchase an item that doesn't have a receipt. The buyer bought it from eBay and is now selling it. The seller is local, he's telling me the item has a 2 year warranty under EU law and has been registered to the manufacturer. If the item develops a fault can I contact the manufacturer for a repair?

Thanks

If it's been "registered to the manufacturer", that tends to be under somebody's account linked with an email address - That somebody would have to deal with the warranty claim for you.

I have owned several models of this scope and never had an issue. It's basically half price and the saving is massive, it's 4 months old. Probably worth a punt...

This is the gamble you take, if you want the full support of the manufacturer then you'll have to pay full price.

Nothing to say that you can't try the manufacturer if a fault does develop though...

You could ring the manufacturer and ask if the warranty is transferable, but as (Vincent I think) said, without proof of original purchase date and place it is unlikely they'll want to stick their necks out.

Even a reciept may be worthless anyway as most refunds go onto the card that was used when the item was purchased and as it won't be yours or your name even on it then you wouldn't get any refund. That's not to say it won't serve as proof of purchase but as the others have said any registered items will be tied to a account that won't have your name and address on it. Better to look at used items as having no warranty.

Seller should be able to show you screen captures , emails, proof of ebay purchase , at a minimum, to substantiate his claim

i would take it as NO warranty, unless the warranty's transferable it will only be valid for the original buyer
