Buying AMD for Gaming

What stops you going for the 8150 other than price?

It doesn't represent good value for money and from what I've read so far, it has similar overclocking headroom to the 8120.

The 8120 is priced about right, performance wise per watt it's about on or edging the i2500k.

As both are unlocked you might as well save £40-50 and just adjust the multiplier on the 8120 to match the 8150.

Okay so if I go for the 8120, yes I have to wait another few weeks and i'll miss the launch of BF3 but I might be left with a processor that performs slightly better than a 1090t? Or at least it will probably run better in my Sabertooth 990fx board?

3.1 ghz seems so low.. considering the Phenom II x4 is 3.7 base.

In BF3 which is meant to be 'multi/many-core' ready the Bulldozer actually pulls out a comfortable lead.

It's also there or thereabouts in the other gaming benchmarks.

Considering you can get the 8120 for ~£160 I think people are being rather harsh on AMD.
Em...actually that's a terrible example, as the situations for multiplayer varies and is not consistance.

Performance wise is not the biggest issue with the Bulldozer, but with it at 4.6GHz consuming a whopping 200W more than i5 2500K at 4.8GHz, and at 4.8GHz consuming 300W more than a i5 2500K at 5.0GHz.

And you are honestly going to use BF3 Beta to represent overall performance, despite majority of the games still don't use 4 cores or more? You DO realise that in games that use less than 4 cores, the Bulldozer is even slower than the Phenom II X4?

Hmmm that concerns me! Really not sure whether to take the plunge and order the Hex or find another way round my situation

Asus Crosshair V Formula AMD 990FX would have been better all round as it works well with Phenom 2 and BD.
