Buying an RS4 (I think)

Being serious they are a very clever and rapid road car that will cover ground like few others in all conditions and carry speed in all those conditions with amazing ease. Having said this mine has been temperamental with lots of issues with engine management lights, recently oil pressure lights only to be told more often than not that its all fine, just a dicky sensor. Add to this the problems with valve coaking and generally not holding anywhere near its claimed numbers if RR's are to be believed then I think they are far from perfect. Now living in Dubai means petrol prices won't be an issue but neither will wet weather. My advice, buy an E92 M3.
 
Thanks Housey. I asked the current owner about this sort of thing and he has had very little issue but then he is constantly taking it to the main dealer for pro-active work (drive shafts replaced, new pads and rotors and regular oil changes)

Sadly not many E92 M3s that aren't at stratospheric prices here right now - though some reasonably priced 911 Carrera 4s around.
 
Housey, I'm hoping to be in the market for an RS4 in 2/3 years time. Are they really that bad? I've read lots about the coaking vales etc, but did you ever find yourself extremely under powered? I've also heard most people change the active dampers for standard too.

Mine is actually higher than many in BHP terms if rolling road numbers are to be taken at face value, last time it was 377bhp (I think) and most are in the 350-360bhp range. I've had no issues with dampers really and as of last week they were all fine when checked. I've had no big issues just annoyances and it has left a bad taste. When running well its fine its just not reliable. I never took my GT3 or M3's to the garage for anything bar servicing, well accept a vanos on my first M3 at 44K miles under warranty. The RS4 spent weeks in the garage in the last 2 years, which is poor for any car not least a prestige one.
 
The power is pretty boring in the RS4 too, in my opinion. Sups fuel, goes fast but you still feel like you're doing 30. That's just from the passenger seat anyway. Probably the only properly fast luxury (to my standards anyway) car I've been in mine you do can't compare to the M3 etc.

If you don't need to cart people about much I'd be all over a Carrera 4 myself.
