Buying cars to sell on

Well i won't be a registered trader as such,

Talking about buying a couple of small cars, cleaning them up and selling them on until i go back to uni.

If you were being genuine and trying to help then fair enough, but it didn't come across that way.

what do you mean by cleaning up? do you mean a valet, some back to black, and waxed tyres, or REALLY cleaning them up by doing any fixes that need doing?

I see no harm in an honest guy wanting to buy and then sell on a handful of cars over the summer. Best of luck to you I say. Just go for it.

If I had the space (we have 4 cars in our family so don't :( ) then I would be doing this as I find it good fun.

Becuase if he is an honest guy, he is legally obligated to give his buyers rights under various acts of legislation relating to the sale of used cars by traders. These rights will cost a fortune for him to implement and almost certainly wipe out any profit he stands to make.

The only easy way to make any money out of it is to pretend he is a private seller, thus removing these obligations from him. Which stops him being the 'honest guy' and like I said, means he may as well sell dodgy DVD's becuase it's looked upon in the same way.

Why else do you think all the advice relating to used cars always says 'Make sure you tell the seller you are calling about 'the car' - if he says which one he's a trader pretending to be a private seller and you should walk away'.
