Buying in the US

Don't bother declaring any laptop/tablet/phone or any other device you buy because you'll just be paying a mug tax, they aren't going to know where you've bought what, and when.

Especially since the rest of us will have to make up the shortfall in the government coffers. Peoples logic never ceases to amaze me - or lack of.

Hmm! I suppose those who took part in the August riots used similar logic to justify their actions whilst looting peoples goods.

Oh yes, rioting and looting is exactly the same as buying a laptop in America and not declaring it to customs for them to take a cut that they don't deserve.

No it's not exactly the same, the similarity being - theft.

So you justify your actions by simply declaring the exchequer doesn't deserve the money - priceless.

Indeed.

It's avoidance, not theft.

Semantics - a rose by any other name. Next time your local authority or central goverment cannot provide a service through lack of cash just think "avoidance". The only money central or local government has is our money "taxpayers" - and the say the pass rate for school leavers goes higher each year.

Faustus in "can't admit when he's incorrect" shocker. Your example is unlikely for a number of reasons you will epically fail to fathom.

I suggest you head back under your bridge now.

You really are talking poo brown aren't you? Get real, how much money do you think is supposed to be brought in through that form of tax? What about every single time I've imported something well over the gift threshold and they've not charged me a penny for it?

Am I stealing from them by not making sure they tax me on it, and are they stealing from themselves too? You're acting like I'm suggesting everyone avoids paying any for of tax.

oh do shut up

You've made your point. Put the drum away, we know your point of view, let the OP make his choice as to whether de declares it or not

I'm no moderator, but all the same enough with the tittle-tattle please. This thread is on dodgy enough ground as it is given the implications involved.
