Hi,

A year or two back I remember Dell offering there laptop's without windows but with ubuntu for about £30-£50 cheaper. They appear to have stopped :/

Any other companies doing this?

There are a bunch of companies out there that specialise in selling computers and laptops with Linux on and I'm sure Dell still do one model with Ubuntu on it (other than the Mini 10) but it has been a while since I looked.

Clevo, I believe, sell laptops without any operating system on at all (though you have to be careful, because some of their laptops are only bare-bones). I was actually looking at trying to get one to replace my current one, but I've gone back to using my desktop more now. The Clevo laptops got some really good reviews though. :)

Yeh there is a sweet one I found at kobalt computers, seems to be for HD movie watches though, I may look at the clevo route, want something without windows and build like a tank with 4gb ram and a fast cpu and not to pap g card.

It is ridiculous how hard it is to find PC's and laptops without MS software. All manufacturers should be forced to offer a no-OS or Linux OS as an option as the customer is paying for something they often do not want. I don't really understand the Monopolies and Mergers commission's actions. MS including a free browser with their software is mal-practice, yet countless PC vendors not offering PCs without Windows is fine. Don't get me started on the Ipod coercing the majority of the MP3 market into using Itunes.

Consumers should be given choice without inherent difficulties. This means systems without paying for an OS you don't want and an Ipod that does not require a piece of software that happens to be a shop to update it and easily sync you music. I really wasn't struggling that much installing Firefox.

I'm not fully anti-MS, I already own 4 x win7 licences, I don't need to waste money on a 5th. I have found a place called kobalt that builds laptops and will get one of them in a few weeks.

The Windows EULA requires that if you never boot the pre-installed Windows OS, you can return it for the value of the license and keep the laptop/PC.
